So far so good in the console 'war' thingy. It seems to me that there will be room enough for any of the current players to make a 'decent' profit in the end.

But that of course takes the fun out of the war... So...

Which means the ps3 is still catching up and has managed to outsell the 360 with 1.17 million consoles worldwide this year...

I'd say current 360 is already somewhat affordable as opposed to the ps3 which still is 'too' expensive for a lot of people. Sony will offcourse counter another pricecut right?

 The arcade model is $279.99, that would mean its somewhat affortable to those that arent rich or hardcore gamers. Its a really hard thing to predict.

I'm going to call into question - will people buy a PS3 at 299.99- even though the 360 is 299.99? For some reason, I have a feeling more people are waiting for PS3's price to drop than they are for 360s.

Like i stated earlier, the ps3 is still too expensive and will probably gain more ground with a pricedrop than the 360 will.

well even at a £299 price point the ps3 offers far more value for money, many consumers already know this. if and when ps3 can be dropped to £249 or dare i say £199 that gap will widen enormously

This kind of bothers me. The 360 units that are getting bought the most are the Pros and the Elites. How is $50 more than a Pro, but $50 less than an Elite considered "too expensive" still? Like I've said time and time again, when the $400 Premium 360 first came out, no one complained that it was too expensive, so why is the same price all of a sudden too much when it comes to PS3.

Well, maybe with this price cut in North America, MS might offset the disadvantage they currently face in Europe.

I don't think Sony need to worry as long as they keep shipping 80gb bundle.
