Forums - Gaming - It begins the creator of GEARS OF WAR calls MGS4 " passive entertainment"

He wishes GeoW would be half the game MGS4 is :)

About the cutscenes...yeah, there are many...Why? because such a complicated story should be explained like such. All of the movies are well acted/played/animated/interesting material...since when do people complain for watching a movie?? Wth..MGS is a game And a movie :P People don't usually complain for more good stuff...unless the "goodstuff" is not on your console :)

If you don't like the cutscenes, skip them. Simple.

Is it really so bad? The man is allowed not to like MGS4 or not make games like it.

I hardly think Kojima himself would take much offense to this comment. There isn't that much insulting about the comment. He is right, a lot of MGS4 is passive. I have to agree with Goddbless here. Relax

Clearly Blezinski likes MGS4 a lot more then Kojima himself considering Kojima said his game is a 1 out of 10

Thats the thing, the gameplay is below par as well.

That is what I keep saying but people just keep saying that form of storytelling is archaic

I think Gears of War could have used some more cutscenes and/or longer cutscenes

That way it would have had a coherent narrative and it wouldn't feel like I'm playing a David Lynch movie

Stupid filler? That conversation is filled with profound ideas about society, the nature of truth, identity, free will vs determinism and others. Just because you and others disagree with the content of it or simply do not wish to understand it doesn't designate it "stupid filler" unless you call the works of Immanual Kant merely stupid filler as well.

I would say a lot worse about works of Kant honestly. But that is slightly off-topic, and I am not in the mood for a rant.

After playing MGS4, my Upper-Division Social and Political Philosophy course is a cakewalk.

John Rawls, Kierkegaard and Kant have nothing on Hideo Kojima

Exactly. Kojima though unlike Kant and others is an artist so he  express' his ideas differently but is just as profound as any other.

Also, those pointing to Bioshock as an example of vg storytelling should realize Originally, BioShock had a storyline which was significantly different to that of the released version. the story underwent changes, consistent with what Levine says was then-Irrational Games's guiding principle of putting game design first.

IG compromised the story in the name of game design which is shameful and questions the true integrity and depth of the resulting storyline. Kojima is a storyteller first and makes compromises to the gameplay to present his vision in its original form rather than vice versa. That's what elevates Kojima above other game designers that the storyline is the foundation of his games as it should be while other developers simply tack on and alter the plot to mesh with the gameplay.

I look at it this way... in boxing, when you punch a guy in the face, and he does not react, it means you didn't hurt him. When you punch him in the face, and he smiles and looks at you like it was nothing, you hurt him.

So, the fact that he even mentioned the game, is recognition that it's a threat, and he thinks it's great.

Thanks for the complement Cliffy!
