Forums - Sony - MGS4 framerate ~27 FPS average.

Uh yeah, I own it and beat it and have played 20 hours of the online. WTF do you think I'm talking about?

And YES, it feels like it chugs. FPS > graphics. 30 fps is OK, but as I said, makers should really let players customize the graphics, PC-style.

Where did you notice it chugging?  Don't say "The whole time" because I sure haven't noticed it.  I'm only in Act 4, so maybe it starts happening towards the end of the game.  I honestly haven't noticed the framerate drop once, and most reviewers said they rarely noticed it (I think I read one that said it dropped slightly when many object were on screen).

People were quick to jump on Conduit a few weeks ago when they announced 30fps as their target, but it's obvious from reviews that a frame rate of ~30fps hasn't stopped alot people from enjoying the hell out of MGS IV.

because its not 30fps, its 60fps, these people are trying to attack the game like they have been the whole week.

i doubt you can even recognize what a framerate is.

i dont think it runs at the same framerate at gta4, i can notice a difference once i switch the 2 games.

interesting info though

And people attacked me when I suggested that GTA 4 ran in the mid to low 20s often.  It does.

It's fucking sad that no one seems to care about framerates anymore.

Indeed.  To be fair, Crazy Kenny said that the PS3 would be able to render ridiculous framerates on dual 1080p displays.

Be careful, he can quote somebody just to explain it to you...

This is THE FUTURE, I really wish every game was optimized for 60fps. It greatly enhances the gameplay in ANY game, esp online. Keep saying "who cares" and we'll keep getting games chugging at 25 fps.

It's not the end of the world, but framerate quality goes hand in hand w/ graphics quality. So it doesn't make ANY sense to comment on textures or resolution but NOT care about framerate.

Since console games keep getting more and more like PCs, they need to give us some control over the graphics vs. framerate at least.

It is no different than what happens in the PC realm.  To make amazing graphics with the existing hardware, sometimes framerate has to suffer.  Generally, people care more about the graphic quality than they do 60fps.  As long as the framerate isnt distuptive, it's fine.

If MGS4 had been locked at 60fps, I would knock Kojima for not pushing the graphic quality enough.

Developers are never going to reach a time where they don't have to make the decision on whether or not to increase the graphic quality and lower the frame rate because there will always be some sort of limit on the console or computer.

I give that post a 9.4.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Are we still waiting for the 1080p games at 120fps?

Ok so the developer konami was full of $hit when they said MGS4 runs at 60fps, just because squillium has been constantly attacking this game means nothing:

A scientific test carries more weight than an appeal to authority, so yes.  If you think squillium's methods are poor, run a framerate test yourself and let us know how it turns out.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

I think that anyone who has played the game (myself included) would say that the game runs great. I haven't noticed a single problem. If it is really 27 fps and it runs like that, then I'm fine with 27 fps.

If we want to get into games where fps actually matter, can we please start a topic about Bioshock - an insanely great game that becomes almost unplayable in the last two chapters (on the 360, anyway)? It might be the first game I ever rebuy just so I can play it without problems (unless the PS3 version suffers as well).

Oh, and FIRST POST! Don't hate on me.

I love you already.

So does anyone actually enjoy playing MGS4 or is the complete and utter merit of its existence set in statistics, sales and reviews?

Sure, the frame rate is a dissapointment, but must every thread not entitled: "ZOMFG BEST GAME EVARRR!" be inindated with damage control fanboys, jesus, it's not worth fussing over. Frame Rates, who cares, grow up. Do you enjoy the game? Is the game selling to your satisfaction? Then why do you care?

The only reason why this is important at all is because of how some Sony fans have been hyping how much more powerful the PS3 is even though it hasn't demonstrated any of this power in real world situation. Metal Gear Solid 4 was developed by one of the most technically competent Japaneese developers and they spent (over) 3 years working on it, and yet it has difficulty maintaining 30fps @ 1024x768 ... this game is probably better than 99% of what developers will ever obtain on the PS3, so maybe its time that they accept the system is in the same performance range as the XBox 360 and a 2 year old gaming PC.
