In an interview with 1up, Ryan Payton says that MGS5 could be a prequel. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Speaking in an interview with 1UP a week before the game's release, MGS4 assistant producer Ryan Payton said there is "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned." When asked about the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid 5, Payton responded, "There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That's all."

"I'm happy we could wrap up Snake's story in MGS4," Payton stated earlier in the interview, continuing, "because it gets to the point where if we continue on with Metal Gear Solid 5 with more Solid Snake adventures, we'll get to the point where the game has absolutely no basis in reality. I do like the idea that this character has had four or five big missions and then that's when it ended, rather than have 20 missions where there's no chance in hell a secret agent could ever survive. He's had four or five really big missions, and that seems a little more realistic to me."

well, if MGS 5 were a prequel, you would proably have to play as big boss.

However, if it were a actual sequal, it would have to be a completely new main character, as i cannot see any current character fulfilling the role. If they made Raiden the main character, the Raiden Haters would pop up again. Other then that, i just can't see anyone else fulfilling the role.

I don't think there are nearly as many Raiden haters after MGS4, and most of the hate was from the bait and switch Kojima pulled with MGS2.

I think they should drop the "Solid" part of the name in future games. Metal Gear 7, heh...

Ugh, Big Boss is in the next one? MGS3 was enough of him, and it would most likely be from his time after MGS3 until MGS4.

I wouldn't mind something completly off from the main story, maybe just focus on a side character or something.

Metal Gear Raiden.

Make it happen.

Don't you mean Metal Gear Raiden 2? MGS2 was Metal Gear Raiden.

*sigh* Solid Snake was the controlled character in the first Act and was intregal to the game throughout. MGS3 has less of a right to use the word "Solid" because Solid Snake isn't even born yet.

Read post above; solid =/= solid snake. Metal Gear Solid means Metal Gear 3D.

I don't want to create another topic just to ask a question, so I post here.
After this hype for MGS4 I started to show some interest in MGS series.
Anyone knows if MGS: The Essential Collection (PS2) will be available in PAL regions?... and when?
