Forums - Gaming - The Japanese must really love video games!

Japan is only one country with a population over 120 mil, a small group of islands, yet it has video game sales on par with the whole of North America and the whole of Europe. I say that is pretty damn amazing! It must be the true bastion of gamers! Discuss...

It is not on par, but it is disproportionately big

It isn't that much bigger than UK pr capita.

Japan:

Population: 127 million

Total hardware this gen (handhelds + consoles) : 41.6M

So roughly 1/3 "people" have a console. Excact would 32.7%  be That's huge.

United Kingdom:

Population: 60.5M

Total hardware this gen (handhelds + consoles) : 15.8M

So roughly 1/4 "people" have a console. Excact would be 26.4% That's big.

For software, I believe UK is bigger, but I have no stats for that.

Also remember that Europe has a lot of PC countries. America also has lots of PC gamers, which aren't tracked here.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Yes, Japan is quite huge, though their video game influence has been on the wane these past couple of years...

WRONG!!! What games in the history of UK has sold +2 millions? Nothing

especially DS sales in Japan
1/7 people has one in Japan

Yeah Japanese games/Hardware sells very well in Japan don't ask me why...

It's about culture... In Japan everything is based on succes in life & work.. That's causing a lot of pressure.. That's why they like to escape the real world & like to play in the virtual world of videogames.. it's called "Escapism"

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I guess this shows why the Japanese market is quite valued...
Anyway, aren't handhelds the most popular now cause of portability?
