I'll save you the trouble in these two statements: 1. MGS3 was hyped, but it was nearly swallowed by the hype of two far larger competitiors, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Halo 2, which were hyped up to be and ended up as the defining games of last generation for their respective systems. This is probably why it sold less than the previous iterations despite the PS2 having a massive userbase at its launch. 2. The game launched during the holiday season. So even though it had low first week sales, it got a lot of sales just from being launched during that time period. I'm not sure when Week 7 took place, but that was most likely the week after Christmas, so sales might have dropped off. I can't be sure as I haven't checked the release dates.

2/ MGS2 was, relatively, disapointing for the average gamer

so plenty of people decided to not buy MGS3 after having tried MGS2.

And the jewel in the crown for past MGS games.  The low sales in Europe are quite odd, imo.

Of course, the EU generally has much longer legs than the other territories.  I'm sure Europe will be MGS4's strongest territory just like it has been for MGSes past.

I was suprised by such low EU sales, mostly because they should have been 550k on the first day, and so to go down to 400k is surprising. However, without a bundle there, some people might be expecting one to come soon. I think it will have good legs there, though better in the US and good ones in Japan due to bundling

Where did 500k come from?

The combined region opening weeks for each title are 1.09 million for MGS3 and 1.41 million for MGS4.
That is 320k apart, no where near 500k.

Well, the smaller opening in EU may be signs of the game having some good legs. This is the first good PS3 exclusive to be released, so I would think lots of people would want to buy it.

The reintroduction of the 80 GB PS3 will help MGS4 and PS3 sales stabilize in the Americas, as for some reason, we love b/c systems.

Japan is very front-loaded, but MGS4 could pull 900k to 1 million lifetime over the course of the next few months.

MGS4 is doing just fine for now. 5 million lifetime is most probable.

I think it will reach 4,5 mill by end of 08 and lifetime 6 mill.

Uncharted is certainly an excellent title, and there are quite a few other ps3 games I (and I'm sure you) would consider good, if not great. :P

So will MGS4 OUTSELL MGS3? yes its a far superior game in every dept.

Will it touch the sales of the legendary MGS2? yes its a far superior game in every dept.

Will EUROPE FAIL in Selling more MGS4 copies than Japan in the long run?  mabey mabey not, all i know is that MGS4 is one of the greatest games ever made.
