Forums - Gaming - What would it take for Nintendo to win E3?

If they announced Luigi's Mansion 2, I'd go fucking insane.

LOL, last gen all I had was GC, yet for some reason I don't have luigis mansion. I really should pick it up for $7.99 on ebay.

back on topic, do you think there is anything the Microsft or Sony can do to counter? I think Sony can announce a few more games and hope the momentum keeps up. I think Micrsoft could buy a games studio, or announce and $100 price cut, or make a slim line 360, or even announce an add on blu ray player that is cheap. Even if they did all that, if third parties pledged alot of support to Wii, I think 360 would be seen as the E3 "runner up". It might be worth doing though; it would screw over Sony.

They need to show up.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

@gamerace

That one or two games maybe be Final fantasy..

Anyhow in order for nintendo to take this year, all they need to do is announce new IP, and more Core titles, instead of more casual oriented games(wiifit..wiimove..wiiplay..etc..) games like a new zelda, kid icarus, new mario platformer, and more.

They need to demonstrate they do care, and they need to announce games!

Hadn't factored in Final Fantasy... if SE announced KH3 was PS3 exclusive and that a FF7 deluxe remake was in the works for PSP (will be out when the install base is at max) and if Sony announced a $299.99 PS3 with full BC, they would win E3. But it's highly doubtful.

I agree that if Nintendo proves that they are loyal to their fanbase, they will win E3 and have good software sales. Either way Wii will sell well though, due to casuals flocking to Wii fit and the Wii as an Xmas gift.

I think Microsft and Sony should fouc on announcing games that appeal to their base, while trying to grab a small slice of Nintendo's casuals. But they cannot afford to alienate their hardcore base. Banjo Kazooie and Lips for 360 and Afrika for PS3 should be pretty safe... not sure if Sony should try to spin LBP as "casual" or "hardcore"... may be they should try to make it appeal to everyone.

Between the DS having an "Automatic" win against the PSP, and the third party support for the Wii being dramatically better than previous E3s, Nintendo really doesn't have to do that much to 'win' ...

Miyamoto says he is working on Super Mario Galaxy 2 and it will be out in 2010.

Microsoft is the only one who stands a chance of usurping the Wii, Sony has basically forcasted its entire game lineup till 2025.

I would like to see surprise third party support, which I know won't happen. Third party developers don't want the Wii to win this generation.

Probably just showing up. :P Even a few announcements will probably be a win for Nintendo. They've got a lot of momentum right now and they'd have to REALLY bugger it up to lose.

Hawkeye - might be hard to push LBP or any game not on the Wii to casuals. Remember, its the tons of buttons which pushed this crowd away from gaming after the NES days. PS3 controls are too complicated for a casual gamer. This is why I cant see LBP doing too well - its too kid-oriented for the usual PS3 player, and the PS3 isn't something that appeals to parents for their house due to the price tag and crap economy. LBP is an odd title thats stuck somewhere in the middle, and might get overlooked.

I need details here, buddy. And shouldn't he be hard at work on F-Zero/Zelda right about now?

And I do think we'll see the first wave of third-party support this E3. Remember what with development times and the expected Wii bomba, it'd take about this long for the early adopters to start delivering. That said, I don't think the support will be overwhelming just yet: things should pick up dramatically next year, though.

As for the original question, Nintendo needn't do too much to "win" E3, seeing as how the event is being dramatically scaled down, and Nintendo seems to be more focused on it than any other developer. Just give me a date for Pikmin, and I'm golden.
