Not every game has to be a blockbuster that makes stupid amounts of money in week 1. Just like in the movies some games are slow burners and the industry is better because of it. Word of mouth will keep this game afloat.

Resident Evil: UC 88,582 1.26 million
MySims 46,178 1.10 million

Boom Blox is now at 210k worldwide. I think a precedent has been well established that a title can launch to low sales and still sell very well in the long run.

Why are you comparing the first week sales of those to the over one month sales of Boom Blox.... It makes no sense to me.

Boom Blox first week in US - 25,738 <- half of what Sims was....

Did you see me post Bloom Box sales? No, you didn't so why are you assuming I'm comapring such? I'm simply showing how what starts off as slow by many expectations can still sell quite well in the long.

Yushire, those are VGC's first week America numbers.

It's called 'knee jerk' - a person sees something that defies every thing they believe, and they immediately lash out with negativity. Unfortunately, it's a common occurance in forums... :(

I sure you hope you're not talking about me, because I have done no such thing, I simply pointed out that using 1 games total worldwide sales against others first week one region sales isn't a very good way to get your point across, most of the games he used also are more established brands. (Mario, Sonic, Resident Evil, Legos)

Because of that I posted Boom Blox first week US sales to show that it is significantly lower, and the chance of it selling as well as the titles he compiled is slim at best.

I've always said that a game's success is judged by sales vs publisher expectations... Analysts are like us, they're simply looking (or often, not looking) at the games market and making some educated guesses about what's good and what's bad.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

Am I the only 1 who's sick of hearing anyalist talk like they know something? Saying “Boom Blox was a true test of the potential for third-party success on Nintendo Wii." really makes no sense. It had poor advertising. It's low-budget. It's a new, untested IP. It's gameplay is very niche (when was the last time an action puzzle game sold millions of copies?) and it's visual style isn't something I would think anyone would expect to garner mainstream mass appeal longterm, let alone be heavily front-loaded.

Poor packaging/naming/advertising - This is a game that needs to be in mall demo booths like WiiFit was. Get people to actually play it and they'll love it. As it is there's no way to know what this game really is from the name or what's on the box.

Intense competition - They launched the game between Mario Kart Wii and WiiFit along with Okami, PES and other good stuff. People only have so much money to spend and wouldn't want to risk it on an unknown like Boom Blox.

I agree. It's definitely a game you have to play to appreciate it. I'm sure they could do better to boost sales. Maybe they thought it wasn't worth the effort/budget to promote it more? Anyway, I'm glad sales met their expectations and I hope it has the legs to sell at least 750k. Does anyone know if/when it is released in Japan?

I think EA will not release Boom Blox in japan after Mysims was a total flop there, BTW is Mysims also a niche unadvertised game?

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

Why do Americans call Lego "legos"

boom blox is always sold out everywhere round me, shipments have been tiny even though a hell of a lot of people want to pick it up. I think ea did a nintendo and shipped conservatively and were caught un awares for the actual demand and anticipation for the title. The toys r us i work at only had 5 copies in on release day and have only just got there second lot of stock in on monday (10 copies) and theres been many people asking for it. What's the stock situation like where you guys are at? I'm in the uk fyi.

nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.

note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)

I have no idea, but ever since I learned they can't be pluralized... I just can't stop now.  It's too late for me.
