Boo! PSP wouldn't be able to handle direct handheld competition from microsft, and both would fail as they cannibilized each others sales with Nintendo laughing all the way to the bank. Leave my PSP alone!

I see MS going after the DS, not the PSP. The only reason they went after the Sony, was it was the console making all the money.

MS follows the money, and the money is in the DS. That being said, MS will probably never release a handheld. They need to figure out there rapidly declining OS user base thing before they dump a few billion into a new industry.

Yeah, most of the money is in the DS (though I am sure the PSP is profitable)

As for their OS, here is a hint for Microsoft: Vista=failure. It has too many features people don't want.

Yeah like deleting the recycle bin!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

microsoft is very successful and great in gaming but they pat themselves on the back too much. They give themselves way too much credit. btw, you cannot compare nintendo and playstation to xbox. If it hadn't been for nintendo, videogames wouldn't be what they are today. btw, playstation was the first console to have games on a compact disc and the first to play dvds and cds on their system. Not to discourage xbox or microsoft but sony and nintendo don't need to make an impact in gaming anymore. Sony and Nintendo's consoles have revolutionize gaming. i hope the competition will be better next gen. I'm just waiting for what the 8th generation of gaming.

Really?  I could have sworn the PC did all those things first.

On top of the PC beating sony at all that, I wonder what kind of value the playstation 3 holds that its users are usually found on X360 boards making feel-good claims about their choice instead of, you know, playing games or talking about ps3 games*.

*actual, released games, not vaporware circa 2009-2012 release date.

MS won't eneter the handheld market because they know it will be a total failure.

They aren't good at making reliable consoles so they won't be good at making reliable handhelds.

MGS4!

Long time rumored ... slim chances to happen ...

Sony was not the first system to have games on CD. Sega, Neo Geo, and Turbo Graphix 16 all had CD add ons in the generation before the first PlayStation.

reply just for albi because it's getting interesting: you are right, watching movies on a 2-3" doesn't make sense, but tests have shown people do like mobile tv, but they like news, sports and music - so there's demand for mobile content, it's just a diferent demand.

That's true, but so far of this remaining contents, excluding movies, most people showed will to pay only for sports, perhaps news as a bonus channel given away with premium channels, like it happens here for Sky News and Meteo, that are bonus for subscribers of whatever pay channel or even only the base subscription. So most of the contents people would enjoy on a small screen are traditionally not payed, but financed by advertising, this could open a good market for HW, but a pretty small one for pay services and HW manufacturers are giving customers a way to totally skip pay services, as they are doing videocellphones able to receive normal broadcast TV, possibly digital, but that offers lots of channels in clear and anyway, also for encrypted pay ones, don't give money to telcos. Simply the new cellphones will make become a commodity the old niche of portable TVs.
