Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 exclusives sell 45% better than multiplatform releases

I don't understand why (considering the port quality of some gamese) but EA did report they made much more money from PS2 as well as PS3 software sales than from 360 and Wii sales.

So it seems multi-platform games don't perform bad on the PS3 at all, just the exclusives are kick ass enough to perform better on the market.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

This makes sense. So far, third party multiplatform games have tended to sell best on the Xbox 360.

That shouldn't have any impact on exclusive vs multiplatform sales on the ps3 specifically.  :|

OT:  That's because Sony's 1st party makes great games.  The fact that MGS4 is exclusive helps as well.  Until MGS4 hit, Uncharted was by far the best game on the ps3 (imo), with games like R&C following close behind.  Barring GTA, Sony's 1st/2nd party titles are generally far better than multiplatform titles.

This goes for Nintendo and MS as well, though MS tends to release far less 1st/2nd party titles yearly than the other two.

But MS relies on third party exclusives like Gears of War and Too Human.

haha whats what i said.

The reason exlusives sell better on the ps3 is
b/c they HAVE to buy something for the system. People usually get the
multiplatform games for the 360/ Wii....

PHAIL!

Er, that doesn't make any sense.  The reason Sony fans buy masses of exclusives, even though those exclusives normally score less on metacritic than comparable exclusives on the 360 is because they have LESS to play.

Take PGR4 on the 360 for example.  In insanely awesome game according to metacritic, but it came at a time when 360 owners simply had too many awesome games to play so it bombed hard.  If it had been multiplatform or PS3 exclusive it would have done far better, with Sony PS3 owners clamouring for something to play.

It was one major argument for why GTAIV would have a higher attach rate on the PS3.  If you have less to play, your more likely to rally around the big multiplat.

The ps3 and 360 had a similar number of releases last holiday season, so outside of everyone having a need to buy Halo,  I don't see why owners of one console would've been more pressed to buy the game than owners of the other.

Sure, the 360 catalog is much larger, but I don't see why catalog titles would've prevented people from picking up PGR4.

Most games are multiplat.  I don't see why ps3 owners choosing exclusive games over multiplats implies that the ps3 is suddenly recieving less games than the 360, since most are multiplat, thus the influx of new releases should be relatively even on both platforms.  It just implies that the exclusive titles are generally better, which should hold true for all three platforms.  1st/2nd party titles are generally the top of the heap in terms of quality, as they are made by the console manufacturer with the sole intention of selling more systems and thus even more software.

Gears of War is 2nd party.  Is Too Human being published by MS?  Then it would be 2nd party as well.

2nd party titles are those developed independently from the console manufacturer but published by the console manufacturer.  All of Insomniac's titles, for example, are 2nd party, as they are an independent company whose titles are published by Sony.

MS had been growing a rather formidable 2nd party line up to make up for their meager 1st party offerings, but then they let Bizarre and BioWare get bought out by Activision and EA.

Gears of War is third party.  Its owned by Epic.  Too Human I THINK is owned by Silicon Knights so its third party.  Being published by the console owner doesn't make a game second party.  A second party studio is an independant studio that only makes games for one company's consoles.

Well then its about time they draw that checkbook and keep / buy some exclusives! They should have done that with SOIV!

*ignoring irrational responses of 360/N fan-boys*

Would rational responses be things like accussing Microsoft of being evil for paying for JRPG's for its consumers?

Is that a joke? All of the highest selling Wii games are exclusives. :?

It's taking the average of all the shovelware games plus the Wii's real games to make the PS3 look good.

Now, let me say this about this bullcrap story.

It seems they find it prefectly fine to refer to the Wii when it comes to how well exclusives benefit the system. However, when it comes to NPD, it's 360 vs PS3? Rubbish.

I'd like to see the PS3's average vs the Wii's for million sellers to exclusives.

It's easy to come up with a good ratio when you only have about 4 or 5 exclusive titles, and your biggest competition is over-ran with "exclusive" shovelware.

What a load. This article is cherrypicking, biased BS and anyone who believes it need to re-examine asap.

Lets say Anubis, Gingerbread Man, Catz, Dogz, Fredz, Bubz, and SMG sell 7 million copies combined.

Now lets say Uncharted sells 1.5 million copies by iteself.

7 million / 7 = 1 million each Wii

1.5 million / 1 = 1.5 million each PS3

...yeah, exclusives benefit the PS3 more. Yeah right.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
