Forums - Sales - Analysts: GTAIV didn't boost May hardware sales

The ps2 is starting to die off. They've still got that big silver bullet, 99$ - I wonder what's their treshold for squeezing the trigger.

Might be quite a long time.  they need the current price to help with overall profitability and they don't want too high of PS2 sales as it might cannibalize PS3 sales.

No matter what this person says, I find it rather hard to believe that it had nothing to do with hardware sales. It must have had SOME effect. Maybe not as large as anticipated by some, but still...

@papflesje

maybe the sales we saw in the earlier part of the year..which were bigger than now were due to the oncoming GTA 4 effect

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

A similar article over at Next Gen offered Patcher and Sim Exchange estimates, as well as VGChartz's.  But the VGC numbers were butchered.

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10831&Itemid=2

Hardware sales predictions were as follows from Pachter (The simExchange) (VGChartz):

Wii - 750,000 (744,000) (645,327)
Xbox 360 – 250,000 (216,000) (191,992)
PS3 - 225,000 (228,000) (177,989)
PS2 - 125,000 (n/a) (105,894)
DS - 550,000 (510,000) (454,086)
PSP - 200,000 (211,000) (193,188)

Those numbers ARE NOT what the Source has in his NPD preview, so where the hell did they get them from?

Looks to me like they took the NA numbers from NPD preview and multiplied by 0.9 to estimate US sales only.

bullsh*t

i bought a ps3 just for gta 4 (and because i bought a new full hd tv for the European championship of soccer (very big in europe)

i guess a lot of people bought a ps3 or a xbox360 for gta 4,
i guess nobody in the whole world bought a console just to play iron man.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data.'

Common sense FTW!

Also note that they are talking about the sales in NA, (as given by their referance to NDP) and ivo is from the Netherlands.

I agree not meanigful or sustained improved sales but sales for the 360 and Ps3 did increase when GTA was released...
