Forums - Gaming Discussion - How much use each console gets.

As interesting as all this personal data is (Wii 95% PC 5% for me), I think we may be missing the real importance in these numbers. Here's my take.

While there certainly was a measurable difference in the consoles, especially in the older age group, to no one’s surprise; I don't think the differences are nearly great enough to justify the widespread dismissal of Wii gamers as being only casual. Anyone using his console twice a day between 12-20 days a month is more than casual.

If you made love to your wife twice a day for 53 minutes each time 20 days out of the month do you think she would call you a casual lover? Better yet try telling her she shouldn't be upset because it was only a casual affair; just two times a day 20 days a month.

Another figure that game developers might also consider is factoring number of consoles to determine total play-minutes per day by console.
(Average Sessions day x Average length of session x number of consoles)

Xbox 360 = 3093 (million minutes of game play / day)
PS3 = 1984
Wii = 2962

That’s a lot of game play for a bunch of casuals; and there is only 4% in total Wii play time and total Xbox 360 play time.

Yeah, let's break it down for fun:

Wii: 97%
360: 1%
PS3: 1%
DS/PSP: 1%

There's nothing more in the the world that I want than to fit in.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

For me: (before my PS3 broke down)

Wii: 70%
PC: 20%
PS3: 10%

70% PC
30% Wii

Depends on the games I am playing on a moment.

This is my response to this topic:

Xbox 360
 40%
Playstation 3
 10%
Nintendo Wii
 30%
Nintendo DS
 10%
Sony PSP
 10%

Out of 100% that is how much I play the following systems.

The Xbox 360 is used more because of its diverse line-up.
The Wii is used when I'm with my family and its somewhat line-up
The Playstation 3 gets use very little considering I am playing some PS2 and PS1 games on it, not that many PS3 games.

The Nintendo DS and PSP are only used when I'm at home about to fall asleep or somewhere boring.

you bought a ps3 and dont play any games on it? why buy it in the 1st place lol

mine would be

ps3 = 70%

360 = 20%

wii = 10%

It's worth noting that the Nelson group recently reported it was wrong with its 27+ demographic. The Xbox 360 had the most usage, and the PS3 had the least usage. This reflects the other demographic too.

So for all three demographics usage looks like this:

Xbox 360: most (by far)
Wii: second
PS3: least (by far)

can the OP please update his post with this information?

For me:

Wii: 90%

Xbox 360: 10%

100% XBOX360 LOL!!!!

for me

wii: 60%
ds: 20%
pc: 15%
ps2: 5%

i have not used my ps2 this year but last year it was almost 80% ps2

Correction: PS3 Getting Least Use from All Ages

Nielsen has amended the console use numbers it released yesterday.
by Daemon Hatfield

US, June 5, 2008 - Yesterday the research firm Nielsen released data collected from April 2007 to February 2008 that showed younger gamers spending more time playing the Xbox 360 and older players favoring the PlayStation 3. Nielsen's data showed that gamers aged 10 to 26 spent 63 percent of their time playing the 360 and 12 percent on the PS3. For gamers 27 and older, they appeared to spend almost 52 percent of their time playing the PS3 and only 20 percent playing the 360. Nielsen contacted IGN today to tell us the numbers for the older demographic should have been switched, meaning the 360 is getting the most use across all ages.

A Nielsen representative we spoke with was unsure why the incorrect data was distributed. After the original story went up yesterday our comments system erupted with spirited arguments over which system is superior. This amendment to the data is sure to fuel even more discussion.

The Wii data remains unchanged: in all age groups, it is a distant second in the amount of use it enjoys.

For me

PS3: 55%
360: 35%
Wii: 10%
