Forums - Sales - Blu-Ray or downloads?

I know it will be a hard pill for some to swallow, but it is inevitable that DL becomes the mainstream choice at some point in the future. You only need to look at YouTube to realize this. In fact, we're witnessing a paradigm shift of sorts, one far greater than moving from SD to HD.

The only question really is how far can Blu-Ray go before it's run over by DL, and that I can't say. It probably has a lot of life left, and I do believe it will be a successful format, but in the long run the stacks are just too heavily against it.

^people put alot of stock into this just like the current big three war--and there like here is going to see alot of fighting and denial

Movies: Blu-ray as you keep the films to watch whenever you like, downloads are only rentable at the moment, which is crap, im not paying for a film i cant keep.
Games: Blu-ray as they take up less memory and there a way more of them than there are downloadable games.

downloads all the way baby! ....

...in its due time!

in the meantime....

Im pretty sure this thread has been designed to see how many people Kowenicki can get to say 'i prefer downloads over blu ray' so that he can then say 'ZOMG THERE WAS NO POINT IN THE PS3 HAVING A BLU RAY PLAYER HAHAHA'

One fatal flaw in your arguement stubbsy young man....  I have just ordered a PS3 so I can use its Blu ray player.... it will sit nicely with my Sony 46 inch LCD and my sony HD camcorder..... now trot on junior... we arent all fan boys you see.

Hang on....you obviously like sony products and buy them so....how can you say you dont love any specific corporations....?

And dont call me junior grandpa

I dont LOVE any corporation sonny.  I buy the best product for the job... iPod, Sony TV, Sony PS3 (Blu Ray player), 360 and Wii for gaming, BMW cars, B&W speakers etc etc etc. thats not love, its an informed choice based on facts not blind loyalty.  You getting this yet... no?  maybe when you are older hey?

Sounds like brand loyalty to me pops

Yep brand loyalty, until they cock up.... PS3 (dropped the ball on gaming), Mercedes (lost it a few years back when production moved to S. Africa), Microsoft (Vista operating system )...  getting it yet??????  I dont do blind loyalty... you obviously dont see that, cos ..... well.... you're blind.

How did the PS3 drop the ball on gaming? You are such a fricking troll

One word.. arrogance.   They thought that they had supreme brand loyalty... didnt matter if they were late... didnt matter if they were too expensive.... didnt matter if they let exclusives go..... wrong, wrong, wrong.   "Next Gen doesnt start until we say so".... ball well and truly dropped!

Or....maybe people just prefer the Wii, and people bought the 360 because hey, it was released a year earlier!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

If there's a decent and cheap movie downloading service which lets you choose the language of subtitles, I'll gladly use it.

As for Blu-Ray, I don't care at all, DVD is perfectly fine for me.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

I dont care for blu ray, but I really hope DD does not become the primary format, as I like having the movies/agme I own in their packaging.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Am I the only one predicting a future where all of these formats live in harmony?

-Unless they feel like abandoning 90% of the market, good ol' DVDs will be around for quite some time. Sure, people switched en-masse to DVD from VHS, but that was because it was a completely new format (disc) that was much more convenient (no rewinding, much smaller, etc.) For the standard consumer who just wants to watch a movie, DVD will be fine.

-Blu-Ray will obviously be great for those who want the best-looking film possible, while still being able to have their wall of movies and say 'here, these are my movies.'

-DD will be available for people who don't want a lot of clutter.

Personally, even though I have a PS3, I'll stick with DVDs unless Blu-Ray absolutely dominates the market. I don't want to be having to pack the PS3 with me when I wanna bring a movie to a friend's place.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Blu ray because I like to fill my shelf.. AND, I don't want no full HD download that takes a god awful long time.

Can I just get a quick poll from the Americans about Broadband speeds stateside.

A lot of the arguments against Downloads is that Broadband speeds are too slow.

Here in the UK I have a 16 Meg sevice through O2 broadband. A quick quiz in the office reveals that the slowest connection anyone has is 2 Meg. The Average was 8 Meg.

It takes me roughly 10 mins to download a CD worth of content. Full DVD half and hour max.

Are Broadband speeds stateside that much slower ?
