Edge have Halo 3 a 10. They're idiots. End of.

It may not pull in as many new gamers to the franchise as some established series have, but MGS4 is going to make at least one person buy a PS3: Me!

I've never heard of "Edge" so I don't know how I can respect them, especially given that they gave Halo 3 a 10. That game was a 8 at the best, and personally I didn't like it which is why I sold it a week after I bought it.

I've never had that MGS games before, but after looking at the videos and demos of MGS4, I know that I have to have it. :) So they are converting me to get MGS4.

The OP has a point. MGS4 is a niche game. Sneak games don't have the broad appeal that many other genres have (like FPS, regular action-games, button-smashers).

But it's a big huge niche game. It will sell close to 5 mill.

Will MGS4 move consoles? Yes, mainly to those who love the franchise and decided to buy a PS3 when the game is released. But it also helps the PS3 game library to get more complete, another genre spot will now be filled by an AAA title. So in the long-term sales, the game is significant, it's just those type of sales that are near-impossible to track because they are so spread out in time.

I'm a fanboy of the 360 just as much as I am a fanboy of the PS3. I believe Halo deserves an 8 than a 10. Most 10's are given to big franchises because of Hype. After playing Halo for some time, it never deserved a 10. JJseth is right, Halo was average at best.

If GTAIV (and the GTA games typically have twice the sales of MGS games) wasn't able to move consoles, then I don't see why MGS4 would especially considering its been hailed as the number one reason to own a PS3 since its launch.

@ JJSETH, you already own a PS3 though. Big Whoop. This generation in a nutshell has been the epitomy of gamers buying games they never would have generations past for any number of reasons ranging from painfully limited game libraries and a bottlenecking of genres to hype and advertising like we've never seen before.

 GTAIV was a multiplatform game.  MGS4 is exclusive to the PS3.  People do think the game will evntually make it to the 360 but they do not know what they are talking about.

Metal Gear is in no case niche as we've seen. It's always been a huge hit. Usually I wouldn't call it a system seller but in this case MGS4 is the first huge exclusive for PS3 and thus may well have greater effect. Also, now that the camera has been 'fixed', the only complaint that remains is cutscenes and story.
