But by Xmas, the exclusive downloadable content will be released, which will cause a boost to the Xbox version. I think that is far more significant than the Japanese release.

There is no reason DLC will sell more systems/copies. The DLC is now targeting owners of the game. The DLC was the 360's selling point. The game sold to people who already had the systems. Now it comes down to new console owners and what they pick up with their purchase... Ps3 is winning week in and week out. Also when it is released in Japan I can see the Ps3 version outselling the 360 version by 200k (Yes it is nothing in terms of the big picture but it is still a nice number.)

Take those Sony googles off. You're dreaming if you think DLC won't cause a boost. You need to seperate what you want to occur from what is more likely to transpire in reality. If MS have any sense, they will exploit this advantage. You said yourself that DLC was the 360's selling point, yet ironically, MS hasn't really advertised DLC at all. It follows then, that they will prepare a huge marketing push to take advantage of the launch/Xmas period.

Seriously though, why on earth wouldn't they? I think you underestimate this series. It's GTA for goodness sake. It's almost guaranteed to sell extra copies purely because it's another addition to the franchise. As I stated in my earlier post, this is more significant than its release in a territory in which it always underperforms. On the contrary, NA and Others will go bonkers for anything GTA related, DLC included.

Yet again, people who wanted the game now have the game. The DLC is now focusing on these people.

And Ps3 sells more than the 360 on a weekly basis giving it more leg potential.

I don't see extra sales because of the map pack for CoD4, or the side missions for folklore.

PooperScoope,
Japan will rise total copies, but will decrease attach rate.

Decrease for each platform, but a bigger decrease for the 360.

^haha i just edited my post to include CoD4 and Folklore too.

You can also add Ps3/360 GH3

All those franchises you mention pale in comparison to GTA. Furthermore, extra missions, islands etc are more significant than extra songs/multiplayer maps. Besides, until we have real evidence, we are all just speculating on the content of DLC. Nevertheless, 50 million dollars is a substantial amount, and I think the extra content will reflect that investment. Like I said earlier, MS didn't advertise DLC, which is a huge oversight, and only makes sense if they plan on doing so later.

It's a clear win for MS, GTA sold a lot better on Sony's consoles, now the trend is reversed, and Sony are relevated to a 2º place this time. Doesn't matter what excuse you may come up with, 360 sold more GTA4 copies than PS3 did, and will sell more.

Great loss for Sony, as GTA was always released first on their consoles, now 360 gets the DLC.

Erm...

Six million more consoles out means that it will outsell the PS3 version handidly.  But in Europe, with comprable install bases, it's a different story (PS3 GTA IV > 360 GTA IV).

I don't get why people constantly compare raw sales over a gross difference in install base.  How could you yield any results that way?  They're skewed in the direction of the console that came out earlier and sold more.

Try again, Trestres

Its already out and already been advertised. Everyone knows about it. Everyone that had a console already who wanted it got it. Any advertisments now will be targeting people who own the game not to bring in more consumers.

Furthermore GH3 has a 11mil user base. It hardly pales in comparison with GTA4.

Even if the attach ratio was bigger in PS3, Microsoft, undoubtably won the GTA battle. And the victory will be sound and solid when the DLC arrives. I had doubts about this, but since the day I finished GTAIV, the most story driven GTA out there, I have no fear, and I believe that DLC will be at least enjoyable, and it will worth the download. The style of this incarnation of the GTA series, leaves no question about what the content will be, It cant be cars or weapons. I mean, as long as a car lets you do the stunt jump, who gives a s**t what the car is?

I hope, even if the DLC has not new areas, it will be the story of CONQUERING LC!

Yeah, the biggest PS franchize is OWNED by 360! And God, I love it!

Yeah!!!! With you, former Greek XBOX360 owner!!!!
