I also prefer DMC...Ninja Gaiden has no worthwhile storyline. It's almost like they throw in a storyline as an afterthought.
As an RPG diehard, story is just too important to me.

Who the hell plays this kind of game for its story?
Some genres have a story as an afterthought/excuse to put the levels together, and they're fine that way. Not every game needs to be based on a frikkin story.

I agree, which is why it's best to have a simple story on this kind of game (no story isn't likely, as a story is always a convenient way to glue the levels together). I can't comment on DMC4 though, nor on NG2 for obvious reasons, but at least Ninja Gaiden Black (remake of Ninja Gaiden) seems to keep the story to a minimum, and it's great that way.
Another example are FPSs. Anyone remember the story of the first Quake game?
The player takes the role of an unnamed soldier sent into a portal to stop an enemy, code-named "Quake". The government has been experimenting with teleportation technology, and created a working prototype called a "Slipgate". Unfortunately, a portal to an unknown dimension has been opened, and death squads begin to emerge, killing and robbing as much as they can before returning through the gate. Once sent through the portal, the player's main objective is to survive and locate the exit which will take him to the next level [...]
Blah, blah, blah. Isn't that a great enough excuse to kill bad guys? It works for me.

Yeah I don't really care about what game has a better "story" per say, but I ADORE the cut-scenes in DMC :P They're just so badass. And I'm not sure I'd tack that onto the "story" as a whole, but I like the gameplay, and the cinematics. Which I think is amazing about DMC.

I like the story in DMC fine, it's not spectacular but there isn't much to complain about, storywise, either.
However, as ChronotriggerJM says, the cutscenes are fantastic. The coreography and dialogue is just awesome.
