Who the hell plays this kind of game for its story?

Some genres have a story as an afterthought/excuse to put the levels together, and they're fine that way. Not every game needs to be based on a frikkin story.

 


Haha, exactly! This is an action game, who really needs a story? I used to love the NG games back in the day on the NES, but I only vaguely recall there being an actual story with them!
