On the other hand, what about that Nintendo name? Nintendo Entertainment System. Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo Sixty-Foooouuuur 64. It wasn't until after the third Nintendo system failed to come out on top that they broke with the tradition of integrating the Nintendo name right into the system name. Gamecube.
I still think it's unlikely that Sony's next console will be anything other than the PlayStation 4, but ... who knows? Okama Gamesphere, anyone? | One major problem here.... Nintendo is the Company name. So Nintendo dropping Nintendo is like Sony dropping Sony from "Sony Playstation"
Basically Playstation is their console name of choice... kinda like how Rex is the Bears quaterback of choice.

Au contraire. It's still the Nintendo Gamecube, but the company name is no longer a PART of the system name. Unless I'm GREATLY mistaken, no one called the NES the "Entertainment System". And what -- "Super Entertainment System"? "64" I did hear, but only as an abbreviation like "360".
Technically, I suppose, that means that it was the
Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System,
Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System, etc. Kinda dumb, which is why no one ever says it. Technically, I hear Mario's name is Mario Mario (first and last are the same name). I guess that's just how the Big N rolls.
