Forums - Sales - The DS has sold the same in both the Americas, and in Japan. :o

American sales will finally take over since the Japanese DS market is overly saturated to the point where the PSP is current the best selling system.

The population of Japan was bound to catch up with it, it has much, much more room for growth in america than it does in Japan. In Japan even if they come up with a new model, price drop, release DQ it isn't going to increase sales that much (most of the increase would be artificial, IE people are buying second DS).

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

what coincidence, the same in both country thats really strange

You're probably right. There's only so much you can expect from 1 island. If the rest of the world had 1/2 the love Japan has for the DS, Nintendo would own it. About the only way, the DS could gather a larger population attach rate, is if they started raining from the sky. Still, artificial sales generate real interest, which generates real sales, in return. If someone goes out and buys a new DS. they are more likely to by more games than they would have otherwise and another person might become interested in buying 1, after they see the 1st person buying it, when they normally wouldn't have.

True indeed. Given that the DS is at 22.77m and that the Japanese population is around 127m (wikipedia), that would give the DS an attach rate of 5.5 % in Japan. That's a lot, needless to say. Naturally, a lot of those are double sales and some of them are probably re-purchases. Still, around 1 in 20 Japanese own a DS!

Lol!!!... 5%?!~... It's more like 17-18%.

I'm guessing Others will end up with the highest amount of total DS sales, then US, followed by Japan...

I'm glad I'm not the only 1 who noticed that. When you look a the real %, it makes it that more impressive.
