Forums - Sales - Square-Enix Financial Report Fiscal '08 - Interesting!!

@ darthdevidem01: I think you might have been trying to hint that you think FFXIII is coming this year. We won't be seeing it this year. DQ9 is the game they expect to send their profits soaring with. That and the other DQ remakes and FF remakes they have planned for the DS before DQ9's release.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Don't worry the sales will up sharply next fiscal sales. Because they have two major title DQ9 and FFXIII. Both combined will sell more than 10m.

Great, Revenant Wings shipped/sold more copies in Europe than NA. Also the sales/shipment difference of FFCC: Ring of Fates between NA and Europe is barely 10k. This is proof enough to those that think Europe is not an important market for SE and stenghtens further the need for SE to treat european gamers right.

Square-Enix, Nintendo, and almost every other developer out there. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but you guys routinely get screwed so very badly...

And since DS development costs are supposed to be so low, and Square-Enix is pulling in some decent money from the thing, I have to wonder why their profits are comparatively lower this year. Are we seeing the development costs of FFXIII at work?

Operating income only 56 million?

Guess they're spending big bucks on Final Fantasy XIII?

They aren't going to release both DQ9 and FF13 this year precisely because they don't want to send their numbers insanely high one year and then crash back down the next. So they'll release DQ9 this year and FF13 next year to maintain high numbers across two years.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Sales are down for Squuenix this year. What big game did they release last year?

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

dragon quest wii is a little overtracked in japan. The sales are more than the shipments, media create has it a little lower also. It's just slightly, but there's no way it can be more than the shipments.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

@CHadius

FF12

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

One noteworthy item from the financial report is that Square does about 75% of their business in Japan. No matter how much Wada may happen to like Sony, it's going to be tough to justify developing for the PS3 given their situation.

For the moment, Square seems to be treading water by relying entirely on DS and PSP games, waiting to see how the console market shakes out. I would expect them to make more console announcements in the near future though.
