Forums - Nintendo - Why Mario Kart Wii couldn't get "AAA" from critics.

This should be obvious to most people, and therefore I haven't posted it before. There have lately however been a lot of stupid posts about MKWii, mostly in Dragon007s thread, and I understood that this had to be posted.

Personally, I do not care much about review scores, but lots of people on here do, and thus it is interesting to write about it.

The very simple reason is snaking. Between 33 and 66% of the reviewers wanted snaking to remain, the other part wanted it out. If it had been in, scores would have suffered from that, now that it is in, scores suffer from that.

That is the definate main part about it. The fact that the best aren't guaranteed to win also buggers most off, but that's not fair to include, as most of the reviewers plain simply sucked at the game. (Look at the videos)

How about just missing things that where available from the first mario kart like co-op grand prix (for the single player). Not being able to do free for all in battle mode was also a detrimend. Just seems very silly to not include those like they ran out of space or something.

Nintendo Franchise = Strike 1 point
Sequel of a Nintendo Franchise = Strike 1 point
Mario Characters = Strike 1 point
No Guns = Strike 1 point
etc.

Sure, silly things were cut out and removed, but scores seemed pretty harsh none the less.

Because it wasn't an amazing game.
Thread over.

Have I just stepped into the twilight zone?

Or is it just that we're discussing a done-to-death topic... again.

Here the sitch:

No matter what reviews MK Wii got, it's selling astoundingly well... Period... It's sales are amazing. So why are we sitting here debating numbers? If the game is good, and you know it, then go play it, rather than dredging up theories and conspiracies about Nintendo for no reason. If the game is as awesome as it's claimed to be, go play it.

Look at Brawl then look at MK, now you can see the difference between a wii AAA game and a wii AA game. MK just does not have what it takes to come out on top. Plus most reviewers hate racing games even top tier games like GT3 and GT4 received shitty scores and those games were about the best you could get on the PS2. Plus getting hit by 4 items in a row on the last lap in Mk can be pretty bad.  But Mk is still a kickass game no reviewer can take that away with a low score.

Because not is a shoter and is for kids, and I heard is hard too.

How bout the games have barely minimally since the SNES version? I was really hoping the Wii controls would make the game fresh, but it doesn't sound like they're too good.

Yeah, that's why Nintendo has no games at the top of the all time rankings .

Some people on this board just have to get it through their thick skulls that there is no anti-Nintendo conspiracy to rate their games poorly and rate games made by other companies (ahem, GTAIV) extraordinarily high to make Nintendo look bad. The gaming world doesn't revolve around Nintendo-bashing!

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

 I love the steering wheel.
