well not adding 5 secs of CGI to a two year old trailer & calling it a new one might be a step forward..

So we're finally up to 6 seconds now?
You guys are being a little hard on Square Enix. They have great DS/PSP games as pointed out. Herein lies the problem, they bet on the wrong horse. They were the king of make all PS2 games and ignore the Xbox and Gamecube. That's the way their strategy started this generation. But... they realized the PS3 wasn't selling very well. As such, their PS3 projects were delayed until a bigger customer base could be drummed. They still seem very anti-Microsoft, but I believe that we'll hear something big for the Wii before the end of the year. You can only let pride stop you from taking money for so long.
The hate for SE is unfounded imo. Most of it comes from its FF franchise and spin-offs, all the other RPGs they make are never mentioned when its bashing-time. SE does rely on its blockbuster to make big cash just like every other publisher out there ( isn´t that logical?) and usually have their best teams working on them, but they do publish/develop lots of other games as well and some of them end up very good because a good developer worked on them or a good SE team made it.
I don´t know if Sakaguchi took all the lead for Spirits Within, though he was the producer so he must have, but I never enjoyed the FFs where he had most actual input.
Honestly, how can a developer/publisher be called "RPG king"? There are so many these days and in the whole wide world. And don´t say its quality, because it´s only an opinion and even if you take the average review score all FFs have a 9/10 and over.
Atlus and Nippon Ichi thinking out of the box? Lol, that´s silly. How many SMT has Atlus made so far? Hell a lot and it´s actually as old as the snes times. As far as Nippon Ichi is concerned, I´m not even willing to hear about their game. I´ll just say each and every single one of their games is about demons, angels, netherworlds and use exactly the same gameplay -> utterly boring.

Yes, Square hardly puts out any games these days. Why, look at this tiny list of PS2 releases:

Odin Sphere was only published by SE in Europe. Look at the games that I bolded. Those bolded games are not really that good IMO though everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Even so, a lot of the hate is unjustified.
I really enjoyed The Bouncer (one of the reasons I got a PS2, it along with FFX) and I could almost enjoy FFX-2 as much as FFX. I do agree with you on FF11 though, that game is so sloooooooooooooooow that I don't know how anyone can play it. You could take a nap between your attacks as you fight enemies.
