It seems to me that this won't happen until the next generation mainly because games are becoming so complex and people are wanting so much more from games. Seems MS was right way back sayin that 720P would be the sweet spot for gaming at least for this generation. With the 360/ps3 being able to upscale to 1080P why bother developing a game in native 1080P. This way you can focus on gameplay and adding more features like 4 player co-op with a good framerate. I rather have all that processing power of the 360/ps3 be spent on giving a kick ass world environment or AI then seeing extra pixels on screen. Yes I know people will bring up the example of Grand Turismo and other PSN/XBLA games that are 1080P but those games do not have the scale of games like metal gear solid, grand theft auto, or quite frankly any of those huge open world games that have so many things happening at once. So does anyone else think we will have 1080P as standard anytime soon or like me do you expect it next generation?
