^ Most core reviewers says otherwise in Wii Sports and Wii Play though, I even heard in gametrailers that Wii Sports have Nintendo 64 graphics.

that was at wiis launch, gaming websites have matured a lot since then to the concept of casual gaming.. but i don't think they are quite there yet (despite this particular 8 score being pretty fair)

If you think that then its like reviewing Mario and Sonic and Carniival games and also give it a 8 even its only a collection of mini games. Core reviewers will have a hard time reviewing casual titles...

i'm not sure what you are saying.. but i didn't claim all casual games (or minigame games) should get an 8 out of 10, just that they are learning to score games based on their target.. and i even said that they haven't quite gotten there yet, but its a big improvement since launch of the wii

That said, as you probably (or actually, quite possibly not) know, wii fit is more than a collection of minigames, so i'm not surprised its scoring more than carnival games, for example

It still not fair for core reviewers to score carnival games as they did though, just read my last post to know what I mean.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

Thats a pretty good score for a game thats not really aimed at the hardcore audience and that it was rated from a core reviewer.

This isn't a surprise to me at all. It's a decent rating , but it really deserves better. Even though I expected it right from the moment I heard about Wii Fit, I still feel this type of reviewing is unprofessional. There needs to be a separate rating system and set of reviewers for casual games and concept games, then the 1 that's in place for hardcore games. As it is, the review process for hardcore games has needed a serious overhaul for quite some time now.

I agree that reviewing this is not easy. Its like a race car driver reviewing a family sedan.

They should have gotten a fitness expert to review it...as most gamers will break a sweat by just dipping their nachos in salsa.

At disolitude:

That's a horrible analogy.

race car driver = great driver ,  hardcore gaming critic typically = in bad shape , bad at sports , and lack of knowledge and dislike of fitness ( I hate to stereotype here, but it's so true )

I know you're saying that under the guise, that wii fit has a different set of features than what most game critics are used to , but that line borders on trolling , because it sounds like you're subtly implying that critics are used to exotic performance and Wii Fit is the Caravan of gaming, purposeful , but void of fun. I have a feeling a lot of people will have plenty of fun with wii fit and will feel quite rewarded by it , in a way normal gaming simply couldn't do.

I disagree and I think its a good comparison... The people that should have most fun with this are people looking to work out or families looking to have a good time together. Reviewers are professional gamers who play games for a living...when they review games they look for "graphics, online, gameplay"...which I compared to "speed, cornering, acceleration" that a race car driver is looking for when diving a car. Wii fit cant really offer any of those...so I was thinking a lot of reviews will be lower because of that.

I did not imply this isn't fun...just that it isn't easy to know what to look for in a game like Wii Fit if you review games like ninja gaiden for a living. IGN did a good job however...

Just add  fuel to the fire here:

Hhmm... a game which is bundled and free with every system gives a 7.5, and a peripheral which cant call a game, only exercises, cost 90 dollar 2 times as expensive as regular games gives a 8.0? something is wrong with here...

i think wii fit is more of an application than a game.

Actually it's fairly easy to review this if you don't base yourself on graphics only, and instead grade it on Gameplay, Originality, lasting appeal and fun factor (basically what is important in a game).

Were there already balance board games it would deserve a 7.... but since it inovates in all it does and the mini games are unique also, the replay value is increased thus i think it deserves a 9.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Reviewers always claim that games get points for being revolutionary, but when push comes to shove, casual games always score lower. Shame.

Wii Fit, easily the most important game release since Wii Sports, averages 80 on MetaCritic.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, a game which is already irrelevant and forgotten weeks after release, averages an 83.

I guess will have to agree to disagree on the analogy. I agree with your last sentiment , however. Yet , I love them both. Why can't they find people who enjoy both casual and hardcore games to review games objectively. Usually , I look at what the critic comments on in their review more than their actual rating. I believe that's the best way to look at all reviews , regardless of game type and just take them with a grain of salt. It's important to know the perspective of the person reviewing the game and adjust accordingly to be more in line , with your taste. For example , if I had a friend who didn't like espionage type games , who said MGS was an ok game , I could probably assume it was little bit better than ok. Either way , if I enjoy a game and get good use out of it , I don't care too much about what other people have to say about it. Sure , I'd love for everyone to see what I see in it , but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

From a purely entertainment website like IGN, an 8.0 is a good score.

Remember who their audiance is, from a PURELY gaming perspective, can you expect much more than that?

yushire are you saying the 8.0 is to high or to low? You've compared the scores to Mario and Sonic and Carnival games and Wiifit's review score is higher than both of these.
