Forums - Gaming - HAZE review (IGN).....4.5

After playing the Demo last week the score it got from IGN doesn't surprise me at all. This is one of the worst demos I played I could only imagine how bad the full game is. When I first downloaded it I was so amped. Within 10 minutes I was like this sucks.

As many delays as Haze had it should have been way better.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

Ouch indeedy :P Still a first day for me though ^^ I liked what I played in the demo and I still have faith in Free Radical. Plus I'm gonna call bogus on this one :P IGN CAN'T give better scores to Denied Black Op's and Black site xD I couldn't stomach the demo's let alone play them multiple times xD Haze is better than these games in every way shape and form, yet it gets a lower score :P I LOVE IGN and I think they're a great review site, but I'm gonna say they dropped the ball on this one.

Even if Haze really is THAT bad, I'm going to turn my blind-side and appreciate it anyway :P Sometimes ignorance is bliss ;)

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Yeah, the Blacksite demo was buggy. I mean, if that's not a sign of a bad game...

Two thoughts immediately come to mind after this ...

  1. PS3 fans really need to stop hyping games simply based on how they look. Since before the PS3 was released we have seen long lists of games that (in hindsight) have mostly reviewed poorly or sold poorly.
  2. Being that Free Radical is one of my favourite developers (and hasn't produced a particularly bad game that I know of) I'm begining to wonder whether the size of team that is required to produce a PS3 game is too difficult to manage for smaller developers. Unlike Free Radical, there were signs of problems with previous Factor 5 games but neither developer ever produced such low quality titles until this generation.

I think free radical really needed sony's help in the dev team but in the interviews they kept saying ,,like bunch of arrogant kids,,,no we don't need Sony's help,,,

honestly this gen Sony is really wiling to help the 3rd party dev team,,FR could have easily  got some help from Sony for their first game this gen so they could get a hang of the hardware.

Maybe Sony's help could have improved the outcome, but I'm just thinking about this from a perspective I know and understand ...

When you're dealing with a small development team (5 or 6 people) most of the non-technical problems you have are fairly trivial, and delivering a high quality project on schedule is fairly easy. As your team grows from this level the difficulty of managing a project grows exponentially, and by the time your team grows to 10 to 15 people you really need an experienced manager who knows what they're doing.

Development teams that are required for PS3/XBox 360 games are growing past 100 developers, and it may be (virtually) impossible to produce the high quality project you imagined while keeping the development underbudget and on schedule; knowing that a lot of publishers have little tollerance towards growing budgets or delays the quality of a lot of games could be hurt by this.

THE worst demo I've ever played was from Blacksite. Shitty framerate, bad controls, everything....got a 6.4 from IGN

So for everyone saying that this game had the "most terrible demo" please reconsider, or realize the bias against this game, because Blacksite was utter shit, yet it scored higher, while the Haze has been at least playable, yet scored lowered. I wouldn't put this game in the same league as the likes of Conflict, because that game was BEYOND utter shit.

I admit, I was one of the fans that hyped Lair, and backed it to no end, but this case is different, as I have actually played Haze, and honestly don't believe that it deserves anything near a 4.5. (But a 9/10 from PSM and a 34/40 from Famitsu gets completely tossed out the window)

As many have said, games like Kane and Lynch, Blacksite, and Turning Point were much worse than this game, yet got better scores, which leads me to only believe more so that people WANTED this game to fail. I'm picking up my copy today, and considering that I haven't played an ounce of campaign on COD4, I think I may do the same with Haze (even though it's story based lol) and since IGN is the end all (who gave Wii Play a 5.5....wtf) and they said the multiplayer is fun, then I think this will be quite fun

Could you post your impressions after playing the game ,,,I m also buying it but it comes out here in 2 days.

I'm surprised by the low score, considering that Gamer TV in the UK had one full episode to preview this whole thing!

Had I owned a PS3, I'd probably buy it for the funny plot: Rebelling against and fighting a squad of drug addict troops? That'd make anyone's day! (Especially when you shoot their nectar pack on their backs! Their "high" is just too amusing)

Sure thing...but it'll probably be mostly multiplayer impressions with tidbits of campaign. I haven't played a campaign since Black....and that wasonly because multiplayer wasn't in that game lol

Ouch, I wasn't expecting it to get great scores, but this IGN's score is surprising.

However, it's not going to stop me from renting it (like my plan has been since the game was announced).
