Two thoughts immediately come to mind after this ...

  1. PS3 fans really need to stop hyping games simply based on how they look. Since before the PS3 was released we have seen long lists of games that (in hindsight) have mostly reviewed poorly or sold poorly.
  2. Being that Free Radical is one of my favourite developers (and hasn't produced a particularly bad game that I know of) I'm begining to wonder whether the size of team that is required to produce a PS3 game is too difficult to manage for smaller developers. Unlike Free Radical, there were signs of problems with previous Factor 5 games but neither developer ever produced such low quality titles until this generation.

I think free radical really needed sony's help in the dev team but in the interviews they kept saying ,,like bunch of arrogant kids,,,no we don't need Sony's help,,,

honestly this gen Sony is really wiling to help the 3rd party dev team,,FR could have easily  got some help from Sony for their first game this gen so they could get a hang of the hardware.

Maybe Sony's help could have improved the outcome, but I'm just thinking about this from a perspective I know and understand ...

When you're dealing with a small development team (5 or 6 people) most of the non-technical problems you have are fairly trivial, and delivering a high quality project on schedule is fairly easy. As your team grows from this level the difficulty of managing a project grows exponentially, and by the time your team grows to 10 to 15 people you really need an experienced manager who knows what they're doing.

Development teams that are required for PS3/XBox 360 games are growing past 100 developers, and it may be (virtually) impossible to produce the high quality project you imagined while keeping the development underbudget and on schedule; knowing that a lot of publishers have little tollerance towards growing budgets or delays the quality of a lot of games could be hurt by this.
