Nintendo:

GC: 21M
GBA: 79M
DS: 72M
Wii: 25M
GBC: 45M (calculation: Total Gameboy+GBC sales - 119M. Total GB sales before launch of GB - according to hardware shipements - 65M. GB also sold a few more copies, so about 50M, not 53. I say 45M to be on the certain side. )

Total: 280M

It looks to me like that due to this gen total Nintendo sales from after PS launch are higher than Sony's total.

But what is needed for it to have a higher average? I'll do through all time here, as that is what is fair.

Notes: I chose not to count VB as we do not have its numbers, I only used "succesfull" gaming machines from both sides. GBC and GB are counted as separete machines

Nintendo total: 462M
Nintendo total machines: 9
Nintendo average: 51.33M

Sony total: 267M.
Sony number of machines: 4
Sony average: 66.75M

Total numbers of both before this gen:

Nintendo: 365M
Average: 52.14M

Sony: 219M
Average: 109.5M

If PsP sells 60M, and Ps3 sells 70M, Sony will average 87.25M
If Wii sells 100M and DS sells 100M, Nintendo will average 62.77M

Wii + DS needs to sell 420M combined to average more than Sony. If PsP + Ps3 manages 130M combined that is.

If Wii + DS manages 300M, the average of Nintendo will be 76.111

Then Ps3 + PsP has to manage only 75M combined to beat the average.

So overall:

Nintendo has total lifetime sales.
Nintendo has total sales after PS launch.

Sony has highest average pr gaming machine, and is likely to maintain it.

Firstly, last generation is going to end close to 200M, so the growth to 210M would be natural, without the change that Wii is causing.
Secondly, looking at the historical numbers, every time the industry has changed, the leading consoles sales have equaled the sales of the whole previous generation (and a bit more), with it having around 70% marketshare, which would mean Wii selling around 200M and PS360 combined around 70M.

I believe you know just as well as i do, that Wii just have had a slow start because of the lack of games.
Besides, the PS2 didn't win because of it's AAA titles throughout its lifetime (since this isn't any different from GC), but because of the amount of shovelware AND AAA titles.

NES + SNES = 61+ 49M = 110M

PSX + PS2 = 219M

219 + 25 = 244M

244 - 110 = 134M = how much Wii needs to outsell Ps3 by.

What are you guys talking about? There are 29 weeks left. 23 have passed, but let's say we have 26 - 26.

The Wii now has a 1.8M/month production, if not more. We also know there are Wiis stockpiled. 10M more is granted by weekly sales, without holiday. 16M is the max, if they already are at 2.4M/month, and have stockpiled enough so they don't need to immidiately.

WCS for Wii, is 9M sold before Christmas, and 1M during it. That would make them have 36M sales.

BCS for Wii, is 16M sales before chrismas, and 3M during it. That would make it have 45M sales.

So you two mixed up best and worst's.
