100 bucks for a console with 2 controllers and a free game....

Well the 1983 Japanese & 1985 North American NES originally came R.O.B. the Robot, a control deck, the NES Zapper, two NES controllers, and three games (Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt and Gyromite). After the Atari crash, Nintendo decided to market the NES as a Robot toy that interacted with a game on TV and not as a video game. The included R.O.B. game was "Gyromite".  I think R.O. B. came with "Stack Up" in Japan. This was before the NES was $99 though. I think it was closer to $200, but I don't remember that.

R.O.B. is an unlockable character in Mario Kart DS & Super Smash Brother Brawl (the Gyro from the NES is one of his attacks). Super old school fan service.

The creation and marketing of R.O.B. as a "Trojan horse" after the video game market saturation of 1983 was named the fifth in GameSpy's top twenty five smartest moves in gaming history

Later Nintendo released a $99 package that came with console, Super Mario, and 2 NES controllers.

This was eventually replaced with a package of console, 2 NES controllers and an NES  Zapper and a 2 in 1 game cartridge of Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt.

BAM! There it is!

Good old times

Lol, imagine Pokemon in the past. Total mahem. When I mean in the past, I mean if it were introduced in 1988. But wait, 10 years later it came to the US. Liek OMG~

Edit: Damn, the first video was taken down off YouTube due to copyright infringement, but here.

Edit 2: Darn it, it's still not working. Here's the weblink: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1EB7Jhv8mS8

So is this where the Mario movie gets the names Mario Mario and Luigi Mario?

Haha, young O'Reilly.
That's funny to watch. I don't think that generation (as a whole) will ever understand the appeal of videogames, at all.

Kind of makes you wonder what people will think about how the news stories that are produced today (about games like Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Grand Theft Auto) in 20 years?

They will look ridiculously outdated like that video. That's the problem with the news stories (or even worse documentaries) that try to explain something to an audience: it's going to look outdated quickly. I remember seeing a documentary the other day about Internet that was produced in 1995. Something like 4 years after the documentary aired it was outdated.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Things do really changed but why most of them are kids? And whats the phone for ninty for secrets for? And no one knew the 100 1ups in world 3-1 back then?

This was before guides existed. Nintendo used to have a toll free number you could call about 12 hours a day and get secrets and tips. There was no other way to find out about codes or cheats at that point.

The first guides I ever saw were "special editions" of Nintendo Power. I still have a Ninty Power Super Mario 3 "Special Edition" aka Guide.

Guides came about from Nintendo Power....

Wikipedia :

Player’s Guide

The first Player’s Guide was simply called The Official Nintendo Player’s Guide, featuring dozens of different NES games. It was followed in the early 1990s by a number of guides which were produced under the slightly different moniker of Nintendo Power Strategy Guides. These were sent between the then bi-monthly magazine issues to subscribers or mailed alongside them. NES games covered by their Strategy Guides included:

Nintendo ceased production of these bimonthly Strategy Guides due to a lack of important game releases in the pre-holiday seasons of the year.

Player’s Guide

After converting Nintendo Power to a monthly format came the more well-known mainstay of Player’s Guides. Early guides covered groups of games in one book.

So you still remember this one? and you still have a copy? BTW, how old are you when playing the NES, I didnt touch a NES or play with it till 1990.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

My god if I could just have half of the games on that shelf in their original packaging. *salivates.

God, I wish Sony and Microsoft would offer a free game hotline to help me with my gaming!

What are you looking at, nerd?
