Forums - Nintendo - Anybody else disappointed in the metroid series sales?

Some games in the series rival games in other nintendo franchises such as Zelda , and Mario, but fall short on sales. The highest a metroid game has ever sold was around 3 million, but I feel these games deserve more. I know it sells enough but it deserves more. So could anybody tell me why it sells very low compared to nintendos other frachises, despite the quality being almost, or at the lvl they are?

Metroid is too complex for a lot of action fans and it's too action focused for a lot of adventure fans.

Wow, it really only takes a single sentence to explain it. Cool.

I concede. Rol wins.

Wow you already answered my question. I would make a new one. Does anybody else think it deserves more?

I already said they are good, but I believe it deserves as much as nintendos other franchises such as zelda and mario.

I think that the Metroid series ells very well considering that it is a game that appeals to gamers and not someone just looking to pick something up off of a shelf. It isn't a shooter and it isn't an adventure game. You have to be a fan of both of those genres and not mind a hybrid of them both in order to like Metroid. Also they need to market it better. Oh and one more thing. No Samus in a Mario Kart game. Love her and all but no!!!!

Metroid Prime has best ranking of any 6th gen game (followed by Soul Calibur). I guess that's something, even if we don't put a lot of stock in reviews.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Metroid is not as popular because Zelda and Mario are more appealing to the mass market than Metroid and especially Fire Emblem

I think that Metroid is an amazing franchise, i even prefer more than Zelda, and the quality of the games are great! In MY opinion it's the best Nintendo's franchise besides Mario the problem that i see is that it's too "hardcore", some parts aare very difficult and you can spend hours in just one thing.

Many games deserve better sales in dedicated fans‘ opinions. I think we had a similar thread even for SMG.

You can be happy that you HAVE sales figures (and those for MP are not too shabby imo). I probably won´t ever get to know how many copies some of my most favourite games, e.g. Monkey Island 1&2, sold.

By the way: The wish for even better Nintendo sales seems a bit decadent these days
