This game is going to be amazing!

No. Subtract the plague of 10's that infected nearly all sites, not just IGN, for GTA IV, and there's no real trend or problem here. MGS4 deserves it.
Provide average IGN review score data for 2008 and compare it to 2007, if you want.
Sounds good, but I'll hold off till I try it myself. Being carried away by previews and reviews online have let me down before...

And it, not GTAIV or MGS4, will be many people's pick for Game of the Year. It really does sound truly revolutionary. |
That won't happen. Chances are, there will be a few reviewers out there that lack any and all imagination, and just don't "get" LBP, so they'll give it an 8 or something.
That being said, this is the only game that I've ever seen that I'd actually be happy if it unseated OoT. Even MGS4, as much as I love MGS, I would not have wanted to unseat OoT.
Of course, I'm always hoping that the next Zelda will be the best game evar and will unseat OoT. :P

I don't think any game gets negative impressions. At least not until days before it's release.
Look at a lot of people in this thread. At first the weren't that interested, but the more they hear and see the more interested they are. This games success will depend highly on advertisments and word of mouth i believe... because it doesn't look like your average PS3 game. |
Jeff Gertsmann new place, Giant Bomb has given a pretty bad impression of Banjo and Fable 2 and Killzone 2 on their podcast.
Though to be more direct, if a place has only bad things to say about a game, they dont do impressions of it. Theres a silence that falls over the game from everywhere. The fact that every site is fighting to say good things about this game probably means its warranted.
I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"
"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"
"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Loud_Hot_White_Box, don't kid yourself. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a title is obligated to work extra hard to appeal to gamers because it takes a very deep approach to storytelling and not everyone has played all the titles. It's not about how well a developer achieves their OWN goals, it's about how fun it is. Now, I played MGS4 at a friend's house yesterday, and the controls were great, the gameplay was great, the graphics were great, but being a stranger to the MGS series, the story was absolutely mind-stumping. The cutscenes felt like screeching halts to a ride. I understand that Kojima is trying to distinguish the way his games tell their epic stories, but in the words of Yahtzee, "Any game designer who sacrifices fun to make an artistic statement is obviously stuck so far up his own ass that he's in danger of choking on his own head." Ultimately, MGS4 does not lend a helping hand to the younger bunch.
Looks good and the graphics are awesome. BUT I'm not sure I would buy this game. I often have issues with games called original and creative like Animal Crossing (I still wonder why it's so popular, never got into it and I tried to love it).
I really would need to play a demo before buying it.
