Crap, White Knight Story is published by Sony? Perhaps they just aren't sure yet and will announce it later...but yeah...could be after early 09. Oh well.

Yeah, for sure. And if Ninja Gaiden 2 never goes to PS3, meaning they wasted their time developing Ninja Gaiden Sigma, then obviously the publishing deal was about exclusivity. Still, if you are going to handpick games from third parties, it's not a fair comparison if Sony just doesn't use the same strategy. A game like MGS4 might as well be considered published by Sony since it's being bundled with the console. But hey, he wins on technicality...although he only specifies the genres that M$ had that Sony did not, which is also a little unfair considering there is no match for several of Sony's games. Oh well. |
I don't see the point in comparing lineups unless you include every game coming out for the console that year.
Bryan was definitely cherry-picking that list to make MS look good. Personally, the 360 lineup is more interesting to me but that has a lot to do with the shooter-heavy 2007 lineup and that I'm kinda burned out on shooters right now, which appears to be Sony's strongest suit in 2008.
Either way, both consoles have a lot of good games coming and I'm looking forward to MGS4 next month. We'll see if Kojima recaptures MGS (which I loved) or MGS2 (which I loathed). Either way, it will give me a lot to talk about because my next editorial is going to center around the game, for better or worse.

Ok. You are right. I will create another thread for Sony vs MS games for 2008. |
There are plenty of other threads already on the subject. Just search around and revive one of them in the gaming forum if you like.

The important thing is what good exclusive games are coming out overall, not just 1st party. It's not like we only play 1st party games. If people want to argue that LBP, Motostorm 2, SOCOM, and Resistance 2 make up a weak lineup on the PS3, that's fine. But let's not forget that they're not the only exclusive titles coming out on the PS3 this year. If we add those 4 titles on top of MGS4, Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles, and other 3rd party exclusive titles, that's not too shabby of a lineup for the remaining 7 months of 2008. There're certainly enough good titles on that list to keep my PS3 busy the rest of the year.

Actually, I think it's a retail release only. I don't think they're going to offer it on PSN.

Yep, no PSN dls, they do want it to be a game rather than just a set of tools to make the game if you like. They do intend to release it with 50 levels, so it will actually be a full game, though I think their initial plan was a PSN release (and a 2007 release!)
Wiki does say that WKC is a Sony published game, but maybe Level-5 will have a seperate event, or maybe they are saving some stuff for E3
I think the list is tepid at best at least in regards to the PS3. I think Sony managed to go from the best first party lineup this year to the worst first party lineup this year. The reality is that Microsoft has more games they are publishing, with greater variation in genre, and their games are more renowned properties.
We must never lose sight of the fact that Motorstorm, Resistance, SOCOM, NBA, Killzone, and Buzz are not AAA franchises. There are a few decent franchises, but nothing spectacular. Where as the 360 is actually sporting known performers. Sequels to series that are more critically acclaimed. Ninja Gaiden, Gears of War, and Banjo Kazooie. The 360 titles just have a better pedigree.
Then you have Nintendo with the highly acclaimed expected sequels. Once again titles that are probably more diverse, and more likely to have fantastic pedigree. I wish I could say more, but Nintendo is wonderful at hiding their cards.
Anyway the Sony published PS3 lineup is not a proven commodity by any stretch in fact its a lineup with a lot to prove. I think its just something that should be remembered. This lineup isn't all that great or acclaimed outside of fanatical circles. I think Sony should at the very least have had a few more diverse titles in their offering.
