Each name saves the configurations for all four control schemes, so you take your Wiimote to someones house and trasfer the file to that Wii, which then gets your GC setup.

man you lot are all like smash masters, i am going to have to stay away from any tournaments for the first few weeks, i have never played smash.

I hope you keep VGC tournaments going for a while (by how much people seem to have played SSBM i guess you will....massive replay value even without online)
