I don't want to disappoint y'all, but can't he be talking about something like Strikers? I mean, he didn't say it was unannounced, just that it would be a game coming soon, that would allow both to play online from Seattle to LA.
Either way, the fact that they've neither confirmed it (like Kart) nor denied it (like Prime), means they're either just being damn secretive about it (they're Nintendo, after all), or unsure if they can get it right. I'm betting on the later, otherwise E3 would've been the perfect place to announce it. But it's got to be under consideration, even now, as there's no point in setting people up to a disappointment.

But it still isn't out in the States yet, it's due next week. The only online game yet in America is Pokemon, if I'm not mistaken.

The feature is more than announced. To the point that european manuals discuss playing across regions.
It's just that he isn't talking about announcements there, just about a game that's coming out soon which they could get together and play online.
The important thing is that Nintendo chose not to explicitly deny online Brawl. To me, that means it's still very much on the table. I left the E3 conference convinced it wouldn't be online. I'm far more optimistic now. (not that it matters much to me, from my Strikers experience, I'd be pwned online).
