Good old Bruce. I can always expect him to give me a laugh every now and then.

The PSX and the PS2 are the two best selling consoles of all time.

The DS may get close to the PSX, but the PS2 is untouchable.

Although the staggered launch of the PS2 has some impact on this, the DS has sold 22 Million more systems than the PS2 did at a similar point in its life:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=DS®1=All&cons2=PS2®2=All&cons3=PS®3=All&weeks=260

And the Weekly sales average of the Nintendo DS is way above what the PS2 ever accomplished:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=DS®1=All&cons2=PS2®2=All&cons3=PS®3=All&weeks=260&weekly=1

To top this all off the Nintendo DS will be (very) close to 100 Million systems sold by January 1st 2009, a new handheld from Nintendo (probably) won't be released before Q4 2010, and the DS will continue to sell for (at least) a year after the new handheld is released; this means that the Nintendo DS has (roughly) 3 years to sell 30 Million units, and has averaged over 30 million units per year lately.

I get the feeling the Nintendo DS is going to blow past the PS2 numbers like the PS2 was standing still.

I don't see it happening.

The thing with the PS2 is, it has consistency. It's still selling fairly well after 8 years.

The DS has another 60-70 million to go to beat the PS2.

I don't really see your point. The one thing the Nintendo DS has demonstrated is consistently high hardware sales, and there is very little reason to believe that this will change until a new handheld generation begins. Realistically, considering that PSP software is selling at an awful rate and third party has steadily been leaving the platform, what can happen over the next 36 months to stop the Nintendo DS from selling; remember to consider that (unlike the PS2) there are probably going to be a lot of households that own 2 (or more) Nintendo DS systems because it is a very 'personal' product.

I'm talking PSX/PS2 consistency, 5,6,7, 8 years into its lifetime.

I don't see the DS selling another 70 million units.

If it's still selling this great at 100 million, then sure. But I just don't see it now.

This thread is idiotic.

The last thing the gaming world needs is to have this person in the news more.   Best thing to do is ignore him so he stops getting traffic and quietly goes away.

I was looking back on some of his older articles, check out this excerpt (especially the bolded part):

These are amazing times and they are the consequence of Nintendo making gaming fun for all the family, instead of the niche demographic that video gaming has traditionally catered to. The annoying thing is that the industry could have made this massive leap years ago, but lacked the will and ability to do so.

Of course this represents a fantastic opportunity for game developers. But they cannot produce the games that they produced before. The audience and its expectations are different now. I have posted this development guide before and it is very relevant:

1) Don’t do shovelware. You are just damaging your brand(s).
2) Write Wii specific titles. Don’t port. You have to respect the interface difference.
3) Understand that most Wiis live in the lounge. And most other consoles live in the bedroom.
4) Polish, lots. Then polish some more.
5) Realize that you have to provide entertainment for the population at large. FPS titles are not a good idea.
6) You need to market completely differently. PR in women’s magazines will work a lot better than adverts in game magazines.
7) Talk to your wife/girlfriend. They understand the Wii better than you do.

Whereas now he says:

The Nintendo Wii is not worth developing for.

Contradiction FTW!

And you base your belief on what? Stop making such assumptions, those only show your bias and personal wishes.

If you really know whats going on, you should know that DS is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, sales are almost equal to last year (except for Japan).

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

It's worth nothing that anyone with a girlfriend would not bother to hate the Wii that much, either because their girlfriend loves it and they play games together, or because there are more important things in their life than hating the Wii.

So there you have it, Wii haters don't have girlfriends.

I didn't see any mention of the gameboy or the ps2 in the article

He probably meant fastest selling, although best-selling is certainly not out of the question for either the DS or the Wii.

His GTAIV killing the Wii prediction was hilarious. NPD must have made this guy feel like a jackass.

Are you trying to imply that Bruce has cognitive reasoning capabilities?

Shame on you, Naz. You know better than that.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I love this - now the Wii is still unfazed after GTA each of these articles reek of realism and panic.
