The PSX and the PS2 are the two best selling consoles of all time.

The DS may get close to the PSX, but the PS2 is untouchable.

Although the staggered launch of the PS2 has some impact on this, the DS has sold 22 Million more systems than the PS2 did at a similar point in its life:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=DS&reg1=All&cons2=PS2&reg2=All&cons3=PS&reg3=All&weeks=260

And the Weekly sales average of the Nintendo DS is way above what the PS2 ever accomplished:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=DS&reg1=All&cons2=PS2&reg2=All&cons3=PS&reg3=All&weeks=260&weekly=1

To top this all off the Nintendo DS will be (very) close to 100 Million systems sold by January 1st 2009, a new handheld from Nintendo (probably) won't be released before Q4 2010, and the DS will continue to sell for (at least) a year after the new handheld is released; this means that the Nintendo DS has (roughly) 3 years to sell 30 Million units, and has averaged over 30 million units per year lately.

I get the feeling the Nintendo DS is going to blow past the PS2 numbers like the PS2 was standing still.

Any benefit given by hits will probably be outweighed by the truthful comments people are leaving on his blog postings.

I find it best just to take this moron in stride. I just laugh at what he says, as if he's the SDF, but more "Anti-Wii" than "Pro-PS3".

One of his choice quotes from VGC:

"People get emotionally engaged with the platform they own. So any criticism of that platform, no matter how true, is taken as a personal affront. This does not lead to sensible conversations.

It is worst just now because the Wii is so different. It is just an uprated Gamecube with a nice gesture interface added. So the owners of the HD consoles look down on it. Whilst Wii owners look down on the HD consoles for not having such a cool interface.

The answer is to own a Wii and a HD console to get the best of both worlds.

Then there is the fact that the vast majority of keen gamers are Sony people. You only have to look at the historic sales figures of PSX and PS2 to see that. So it is galling for them that up to now the Xbox 360 has been by far the best HD ownership proposition. More games, a whole pile of AAA exclusives and Xbox Live give it huge competetive advantage. What further rubs the salt in for the Sony guys is that the 360 is going to get several installments of exclusive GTA IV content.

This obviously leads to lots of PS3 Vs 360 friction.

Then you have to remember that you cannot see a person's age on the internet. So there are a lot of 12 year old fanboys getting into flame wars when their understanding of meaningful debate is somewhat limited.

Sometimes this leads to good fun, but mostly it is just tiresome.

On my blog I often write about the platform holders and OCCASIONALLY I GET A FANBOY COMMENTING WITH AN IRRATIONAL RANT. Obviously these just get deleted."

XD at the capitalized part.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Since the time he so eloquently participated in this community, we carry Bruce in a special place in our heart. You could say we have become avid followers of his visions that he spreads across the internet.

Bruce, we are here with you. We will be here for you when you need a shoulder to sob on.

I don't see it happening.

The thing with the PS2 is, it has consistency. It's still selling fairly well after 8 years.

The DS has another 60-70 million to go to beat the PS2.

Standard graphics-are-everything BS. Then again, this is a "professional" reviewer we're talking about, so I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Be the ultimate ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! Poisson Village welcomes new players.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

No one "Found" BruceOnGames he found us ...  His first post was in January of 2008 (http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=13718).

You should really read his post history ... His analysis is about as balanced and unbiased as anything Kwaad or Leo-j have done.

I don't really see your point. The one thing the Nintendo DS has demonstrated is consistently high hardware sales, and there is very little reason to believe that this will change until a new handheld generation begins. Realistically, considering that PSP software is selling at an awful rate and third party has steadily been leaving the platform, what can happen over the next 36 months to stop the Nintendo DS from selling; remember to consider that (unlike the PS2) there are probably going to be a lot of households that own 2 (or more) Nintendo DS systems because it is a very 'personal' product.
