Forums - Nintendo - VGC's 1st SSBB Online Tournament=June 15th (suggestions are welcome)

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to ban Temple--it's the best level in the entire Smash series. There are no random effects, there's room to maneuver, well-laid-out terrain, and it's good for long-, mid-, and close-range combat.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

In fact, no levels should be banned unless they have random effects that completelyturn the tide, like New Pork City.

Okay my turn to ask a stupid question... what the hell is a counter-pick stage?

The first stage in a set is chosen randomly from a list of "neutral" stages. They are generally accepted to give no character a significant advantage, and are devoid of almost any randomness. After the first stage, the loser gets to pick the next one if the stage is not out right banned. Any stage that is neither banned, nor neutral is considered a counter-pick since the loser of the first match can choose it to gain some advantage.

I'm almost interested in this, but there are just so many restrictions that I'm not sure if it's worth the effort, all the various laser lock whatever it is. Why are so many stages banned? Is this really what official tournaments are like? Cause I'll be honest, I'm getting a little disillusioned here.

Most tournaments are at least this restrictive. It can easily be a lot worse. The stages are banne because they either give a significant advatage to certain characters or play styles. Some are just banned because they are too random and interfere with the technical fighter aspect of Brawl to a severe degree.

I think I know what laser lock is. I think the way it is performed is by having Falco trap a character on the ground with a short hop and laser blast to keep them from standing up. The idea is once they hit the ground they can't get back up until they have a stupidly high percentage and are as good as dead.

Here is a video of the Jab Lock and Laser Lock. I would have embed it, but I don't know how.

The pick a stage / counter stage won't work with online since both player pick their stages unlike local multiplayer where there's only one person who picks the stage.

I don't understand why any stages are banned. They are all part of the game. Same with items, which I assume are banned because tournament players hate them. They're part of the game, deal with them.

TGM, I also think that Marth's chain grab on Ness and Lucas should be banned.

Wait, why are Pokemon Stadium 2 and Skyworld banned? Nothing dangerous happens there.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It may be asking too much, but could we get some videos? I am not into SSBB myself, but I love to watch matches. At least some videos of the finals or the most intense battles.

If I make it far enough into the tournament, I can capture videos of it.

I also wonder why Pokemon Stadium 2 is banned, and Pokemon Stadium isn't. The legendary pokemon in the background is simply annoying...
