Forums - Sony - What the gaming community has done to Haze

I think the lack of hype will definately help Haze. 360 fans are downplaying it because it isn't on their console. Nobody really knows how good/bad this game will be. It will benefit from lower expectations. A game doesn't need to be a "halo-killer" to be a success.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Honestly, I'm not knocking this game because it isn't revolutionary, I'm knocking it because it has "been there, done that a million times already" written all over it.

I might be a decent game but I get the distinct feeling that I've played it so many times in the past 10 years that I have a hard time saying anything more than "meh" about it.
Hopefully the full game will surprise me but I'm not holding my breath in anticipation.

Can't you say the same thing about Resistance, COD4, Halo 3, etc? The only shooters that have changed the playing field this gen are Bioshock, for it's storytelling, and Gears, for the cover system, but everything else could be filed under "been there, done that"

I could say the same thing about Halo 3's single player and Resistance as a whole but from what I hear COD4 was pretty awesome in many ways (I only barely played it) and did some amazing things. And Bioshok isn't the onll awesome new shooter this gen, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption brought us a new control scheme standard, Halo 3 had fantastic multiplayer, Portal was amazing, HL2: Episode 2 was very solid tried and true but also cheap, and there others that I just don't feel like going into (half lazy, half don't follow the genre super closely).

And actually, as much as I knock on Resistance, even the 40 player multiplayer was pretty amazing since I don't think something like that had been done on a console FPS before (though I could be wrong there).

CoD4 is quite a bit different. It's a modern setting and extremely well executed. As for Halo, well it kinda created its own sub-genre of shooters so it gets a pass, though the series is getting a little tired and I hope they let it rest for a bit. R:FoM was "meh" for entirely different reasons... The world was bland and felt uninspired IMO.

Not an FPS and the cover system has been done before in Kill.Switch.

Haze is another mediocre shooter on the level of BlackSite: Area 51, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Conflict: Denied Ops, Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back, Timeshift, Clive Barker's Jericho etc. This game shouldn't be getting any attention.

Haze feels more like a copycat, when i played the demo, i saw saw nothing new that i dont already have. Its not bad, but its not a game that i cant wait to get either.

I think everyone should try Haze...but with caution as its kind of like in the early 90's when all these mascots were trying to rip off sonic the hedgehog and mario. Shooters sell today and there isn't an abundance of choice. Therefore to be noticed you have to be really good. 85%+ reveiw scores good...

First off, being delayed indefinitely a month before launch when print ads are already being ran is a very telling tale.  Hopefully they got all their problems sorted out, but that fact alone tells anyone that the game had something seriously wrong with it.

As for Halo, it's true that many games have multiplayer and many of those have *fantastic* multiplayer.  Still though, Halo 2 and Halo 3 stand out as two of the best multiplayer games.  Halo 3 just has an insane amount of depth that most other games don't have.  Sure, it doesn't have 40 player deathmatch, but it does have just about everything else and all of it very well polished.

..the issue is that people WANT this game to fail, mostly from the Xbox side. I don't want this to turn into a 360 bashfest, as my situation may not have happened to anyone else, but the fact that the first thing he asked was "How is this game revolutionary?" without seeing anything else but the name on screen makes me believe that everyone has convinced themselves that this game will suck.

I think you're reading too much into this.  He truly might have said it sucked mainly because it's on the PS3 and 360 (because those people do exist) but there are other reasons to assume the game is going to suck.  The first and foremost reason are the delays.  A delay can make a game good but when it's an unknown game it can also put a lot of worry into someone.

The other thing that makes people worry is that the gameplay videos just don't look that great.  I haven't actually watched any of the recent ones because I stopped paying attention to the game when Gamestop said they wouldn't be actually giving the game away for free but I have been at least paying attention to the comments.  I could be wrong, but the vast majority of the comments are meh.

I mean, how many games this generation have been "revolutionary"? Not that many, yet there are still great games out that allow gamers to enjoy themselves. What happened to that? What happened to a solid game coming out that we, as gamers, can enjoy? Why does EVERY game have to break new boundaries? This is like something I agreed with in the thread about MGS4 getting a 10:

Not every game has to be revolutionary (and there have been a lot this generation alone) but we do also want something different.  Why do I want to pay $60 for a game I've already played over and over again?  There's nothing that's wrong with an overly generic game that's cheap, but if you expect me to pay full price for a game give me a good reason to want to pay full price.

And yes, a problem with a lot of games is that they get announced way to early and then get delayed way too much.

The first thing bolded: But you see, those same gameplay videos from when the game first showed up had everyone saying "I can't wait for this game to come out" Just look at the comment on gametrailers. The opinion has only changed to "meh" now because it was delayed. But I mean....wasn't GTA delayed a month before release?

Second thing: If that's the case, I guess you won't be buying Gears 2, Resistance 2, or, dare I say it, Halo 4 (if it ever comes out..probably will), because all those games are going to have the exact same formula as there predecessors, just with better graphics and a little more tweaking and polish, yet they're still going to be fun games, which is why I'm asking, what's the problem with that?

Is this the PS3's Crysis then? All show and no go? I think it is, and even the show is not much to write home about (same goes for Crysis, and no; I am not crazy).

Doesn't help much when people who own PS3's judge the game's demo as if its the real thing either.

Frankly, Id not be surprised if companies stop releasing demo's of large budget games...I can't remember one that really was embraced.

@BMaker11
I think this will be a great game. I like the plot a lot. Don't listen to the Xbox fanboys who are just sour coz they won't get to play it. Seriously what do you care what the Xbox crowd thinks about this one? Its unfortunate that Haze is getting lost in the hype around GTA and MGS4 but I think this will be one with great legs, kind of like Ratchet And Clank. All we need is some good reviews, which I am hoping will come soon.
