Forums - Gaming - Game site reviewers are N00bs who write game reviews.

Some games get inflated review scores. Other games get graded down which deserved fairer treatment. I guess if we buy a game and a popular review site rates it down you get upset if you enjoyed that game for example Assassins Creed received some shocking reviews deserved 8's across the board, brilliant graphics. If a game was rated highly and you found it boring and tedious for example Oblivion received 9's to 10's and I believe it only deserved 7 to 8's.

i don't really care for review scores. some reviewers are biased and scores the game based one what they think it should deserve. i may think its a 9 but they gave it a 7.9? bullshit

You talk about reviewers like being one makes you automaticly idiotic , it doesn't.

I actualy don't mind reviewers , it's whole review system I don't like , it tries to achieve a level of objectivitiy that apeals to us but fails because it's impossible. To put it simply they can't speak for everyone when the review games so in my eyes they speak for no one but themselves.

The opinion of a 'noob' is just as valid as the opinion of an 'expert' the problem (in my opinion) is that they attempt to summarize very complicated opinions about games into a simplistic and arbitrary numeric scale. Honestly, you learn far more about a game based on the following few yes/no questions than you do from the 10 point scale:

Did you enjoy the game?
Would you recommed the game to people who like the genre?
Would you recommed the game to people in general?

Never trust an Official Magazine they are shills for the game industry and paid to give biased reviews on games includes all Official PS3, 360 and Wii sites/magazines. Those sources are the least trustworthy of the reviewers out there and they would practically give every game a high score because they are paid to promote the company in a positive light.

Choose any profession in the world, from prostitute to teacher to ice cream salesman torock star to game reviewer and there are good ones and bad ones. And there are good reviewers who will have a bad day/review and bad reviewers that will come up with a great take on a game.

Saying they are all useless or all good, even within one publication, is pointless and makes you look rather silly. They aren't even necessarily tthe same reviewers from month to month or year to year, and different reviewers in the same mag might have VERY different opinions.

Like I would say Halo 3 really deserves a 10 because to me the stuff it does brilliantly overshadows some of the minor qualms, and somebody above me used the example of them giving it a 10 as a reason to distrust a reviewer. We could work for the same company and both opinions are still totally valid.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

i generally dont trust review sites a lot of games i loved didnt exactly get the best reviews but i still love them

Largely; I agree. GTA IV, Bioshock and Crysis, there you have three games undeserving of such praise (I know Crysis is rated below the other two but still) imo.

The reality is that those that complain about reviewers being newbies. Are actually the newbies. Your not comprehending how to properly use and process reviews. Reviews are about informed experienced opinion. Your looking for someones wisdom to complement your limited knowledge. To enable you to make better choices for yourself.

Never form an allegiance to a particular review site. Form an allegiance to a particular reviewer, and if possible for a particular genre. You do this by comparing their past reviews to games you have personally played. Before reading their reviews write down your scores, and then compare them to their scores. Doing this you can develop a percentage of how much their opinion matches your own.

When you find a reviewer who has a very similar opinion to you specifically then use that reviewer. Since you know that the reviewer and your tastes a very similar you should place greater weight on their reviews for potential purchases. What they find bad you will probably find bad. What they find good you will probably find good.

Stop dragging console bias, game bias, and nostalgia into your considerations. Be dispassionate about finding the right reviewer or reviewers for you. There will be reviews you agree with and disagree with all over the internet. Bitching about the other guys reviews isn't going to help you in your quest for gaming bliss.

There is nothing wrong with the numbers. Generic questions or vague wording is not likely to help you. Find the reviewer who scores closest to you, and trust in their judgment. More often then not they will be right when it comes to what you will like.

Some of GameInformer's written reviews aren't bad but when it comes to scoring, I've found that if I subtract half a point, it's usually dead on to what I would give the game. They, like most other big publications or sites, inflate their scores quite a bit.

As long as the platform they are reviewing isn't the Wii I like their reviews. It seems that every Wii game they review gets a point to a point and a half less than other reviews mags/sites.

I in particular was a little pissed at the 6.75 score for Medal of Honor Heros 2,  the 6 for No More Heros,. and the 6 for Endless Ocean. It seems they hate motion controls (and my theory is) because they don't know how to use them properly.
