The reality is that those that complain about reviewers being newbies. Are actually the newbies. Your not comprehending how to properly use and process reviews. Reviews are about informed experienced opinion. Your looking for someones wisdom to complement your limited knowledge. To enable you to make better choices for yourself.
Never form an allegiance to a particular review site. Form an allegiance to a particular reviewer, and if possible for a particular genre. You do this by comparing their past reviews to games you have personally played. Before reading their reviews write down your scores, and then compare them to their scores. Doing this you can develop a percentage of how much their opinion matches your own.
When you find a reviewer who has a very similar opinion to you specifically then use that reviewer. Since you know that the reviewer and your tastes a very similar you should place greater weight on their reviews for potential purchases. What they find bad you will probably find bad. What they find good you will probably find good.
Stop dragging console bias, game bias, and nostalgia into your considerations. Be dispassionate about finding the right reviewer or reviewers for you. There will be reviews you agree with and disagree with all over the internet. Bitching about the other guys reviews isn't going to help you in your quest for gaming bliss.
There is nothing wrong with the numbers. Generic questions or vague wording is not likely to help you. Find the reviewer who scores closest to you, and trust in their judgment. More often then not they will be right when it comes to what you will like.
