"I think a lot of reviewers end up deciding what they want to give a particular game (as a score) and then justify that score ..."

Bingo.

For more fun, look on gamerankings. Wii Sports has a 76.5% on gamerankings. Wii Play has a 60% rating even though it will outsell Halo 3 in the US soon.

Simply put, reviewers don't review anymore. They simply spit out what the publishers and "elite gamers" say.

So sales confirm quality? Then Nsync were more talented than Pavarotti was? It all makes sense now. I guess Boogie is better than Okami too?

You know, it only depends on your preferences. If you like Boogie more, then you like it more, if you like Okami more, then you like it more. But, if we take a random sample of people and put them play Okami and Boogie and they have to tell which one is better, i can tell you for certain that Boogie wins. I propably could like Okami more, just like you. But my wife propably would like Boogie more.

grade inflation is now beginning for "casual" titles. a year ago there's no way this would have gotten a B+ from 1up... either that or reviewers are adapting to these kind of titles.

i should probably check wii fit average scores after all's the reviews are out and compare it to wii sport's average scores. if wii fit scores higher, that's evidence.

EDIT: also, 1up gave boom blox an A+.  i don't know, it's like 1up is moving from one extreme to another.

It's a commonly known fact, that games/platforms popularity effects reviews. I mean, when you think of it, if a certain platforms owners are 50% of your readers and your review says that the game sucks for the popular games, who's going to read your reviews? And decrease in popularity lowers the scores. I remember one TV show reviewing Metroid Prime, and it gave pluses for the controls, but when they later reviewed Metroid Prime 2, they gave minuses for the controls (both games have similar controls).

Before you dismiss the score survey the web. Most of the low scores come from sites that didn't really test it out. Those that actually did a serious long term test were almost always surprised and very positive.

New and different things get lower scores because they don't fit into the reviewer's world view. Everytime I read a review of a Wii game that in about the second paragraph has something like "the Wiimote worked but I preferred playing the game using the classic controller", I quit reading because he doesn't get it and he never will. To get really fair reviews on something new I guess we have to wait for new reviewers.

Well I'm not sure about that. I mean for example, me I bought Mario Kart Wii and after trying out the "wii wheel" I switched to the classic controller. I find it much easier to use for MK, probably because my first (and still favorite) MK game is Super Mario Kart (SNES) and I put a lot of playing time into that game back in the day, so I'd much rather have an experience closer to that compared to using the wheel.

I can not believe people are actually going to sit here and tell me that this is a fun (enjoyable or amusing ) game. Or that this board is a innovation in video games. The success of this game and games like Wii sports shows a serious problem with humanity. These are real life activities that you can actually go out and do. It is not that expensive to go by a bat and ball, people will give away a tennis raket if you are interested in tennis. Why are people paying money to do this virtualy when you can do it for real.

Wii Fit is even more rediculous than Wii Sports. What are people doing payimng 350 dollars for a workout system that does absolutly nothing. Wii Fit is not a game, the board is not a game. When you play this game you are working out. No one needs a devices to tell them, how to balance, do sit ups, longes, dips, and so on.

People that are celebtaring this, have a good time. Just know this is not a win in gaming for Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, or the gamer, but it is a lose for humanity.

P.S. Please note I have NO problem withg the Wii. I think Nintendo has some great GAMES and I think thazt the system was well worth it for the oppertunity to experiance them. I do have a problem with a company that takes advantage of incompatent people. Here is a good list of things for Nintendos your a retard but Wii can help products:

1. Wii Cook
2. Wii Clean
3. Wii Chat
4. Wii Read
5. Wii Educate

Sigh.... I will try again, but I am sure I will get flamed... again...

IT'S, NOT, A, GAME!

It's a piece of exercise equipment. The point of it is to try and be fun, just like a kickboxing class, or a spin class. Now, Spin class is riding a bike like you are in a mountain race. You could just go ride a bike. Kick Boxing, you could just do.

If you lived near water, you could get a row boat and row it instead of using a row machine.

All these things are an attempt to make getting fit fun. WiiFit is the same thing.

As for doing these things in real life, yes, I guess in real life you could try and become an Olympic Ski Jumper, but I would rather not ;)

1. It's not a matter of belief. Welcome to the reality kid. 2. Yeah, ever heard of personal trainers? Ever heard how much home exercise equipments cost? And in similar fashion those home excercise equipment does nothing. Besides, Wii Fit does something no other does: shows your balance while doing the exercise, and trying to keep the COG in the middle of the board, increases the effiency and helps a lot doing the exercise. By the way, doing some hula hoops, yoga and balance tests made my lower back feel better than in ages. Last time it felt so good was the last time i visited physiotherapist (i don't know if that's what it's called in enlish). 3. Brain Training, English Training, Common Knowlegde Training, Sight Training, and what was the Touch Generations cooking game etc. Are all DS games and fits your categories mentioned, so it's not impossible to see the type of games on the Wii too. And one important thing to consider is, that all the trainings in all the games are similar exercises that professionals use. Sight Training (or was it Vision Training) exercises you like professional athletes are trained, Brain Training exercises are used in dementia care, English Training has voice recognition etc. Apparently you have missed quite a lot about current trends and what the games actually are. Instead of calling people who play Brain Training retards, i suggest you try it out yourself, it helps you understand that the retard actually is you.

How is it not a game? It can be used for either exercise or recreation. Would you not consider DDR a game?

Now, if it was only the strength training and yoga I'd probably agree with you, but there's a lot more to it than that. I don't think you understand what all is in Wii Fit.

Some people are stupid enough to miss the whole point of Wii Fit. So let me help you.

Wii Fit won't make obese people fit thats for sure. But you don't need to be obese to do a LITTLE fitness.

Wii Fit helps healthy people stay healthy. Cheap, fast, fun, any hour of the day, any day of the week, for exactly how long you want. Gyms can't compete with that.

My girlfriend for example has a BMI of 20. Thats healthy as hell. However I would be happier with her having a FEW pounds less. I can't make her go to the gym for that. She needs someone to go with, she needs to get dressed for street, then dress for sport again at the gym etc. She won't do it. But she had a burst of happiness when I told her that I'm going to buy Wii Fit for her.

KBG29 if you would attend gyms you would realize how many people do the exercises in a wrong way that takes them twice longer to achieve the same results as doing the exercises in the correct way.

For the bolded part: Actually nothing does by itself, so that in mind Wii Fit isn't any better or worse than any other exercise. You still need to work in order to lose weight. But, it does give you a good sweat if you do the workout.

Considering what you told about your GF, you and your girlfriend are pretty young. And no, you don't want your girlfriend to lose weight, you just want her to be a little firmer around the waist and ass and her having bigger tits.

WiiFit is not a game (in my eyes) because the creator's vision was to make exercise fun. The goal is not to "win", but to follow a series of exercise that are fun.

You put in your weight, your height, and it calculates your BMI, and tells you what to play in order to reach a defined goal. The reason for the program you follow is not to achieve some game statistic; it's to lose weight, or gain balance, or whatever you told it you wanted to do.

To then compare it to a piece of media that's sole purpose is entertainment (a video game) is pointless.

DDR does none of the above. It's a game that takes effort to complete. Not something that was conceived for the purpose of losing weight.

Oh, and to the person that said WiiFit will not turn a fat guy into a fit guy is wrong. It can get very intense, and as with anything, if you continue to use it, it will work.

Are you sure you have played it? I mean it does save your records for the exercises and minigames.
Anyway, in that way, it definately is a bridge for non-gamers to gaming. Just like DDR that was mentioned or Guitar Hero. It's a traditional game where you're supposed to beat the high score instead of beating the game and it also expands the game achievements to real life.
