"I think a lot of reviewers end up deciding what they want to give a particular game (as a score) and then justify that score ..."

Bingo.

For more fun, look on gamerankings. Wii Sports has a 76.5% on gamerankings. Wii Play has a 60% rating even though it will outsell Halo 3 in the US soon.

Simply put, reviewers don't review anymore. They simply spit out what the publishers and "elite gamers" say.

So sales confirm quality? Then Nsync were more talented than Pavarotti was? It all makes sense now. I guess Boogie is better than Okami too?

You know, it only depends on your preferences. If you like Boogie more, then you like it more, if you like Okami more, then you like it more. But, if we take a random sample of people and put them play Okami and Boogie and they have to tell which one is better, i can tell you for certain that Boogie wins. I propably could like Okami more, just like you. But my wife propably would like Boogie more.

grade inflation is now beginning for "casual" titles. a year ago there's no way this would have gotten a B+ from 1up... either that or reviewers are adapting to these kind of titles.

i should probably check wii fit average scores after all's the reviews are out and compare it to wii sport's average scores. if wii fit scores higher, that's evidence.

EDIT: also, 1up gave boom blox an A+.  i don't know, it's like 1up is moving from one extreme to another.

It's a commonly known fact, that games/platforms popularity effects reviews. I mean, when you think of it, if a certain platforms owners are 50% of your readers and your review says that the game sucks for the popular games, who's going to read your reviews? And decrease in popularity lowers the scores. I remember one TV show reviewing Metroid Prime, and it gave pluses for the controls, but when they later reviewed Metroid Prime 2, they gave minuses for the controls (both games have similar controls).
