Even with no price cut they are on track to do much more than 10 millions already....
They already sold 1.3 million PS3 in 6 weeks this fiscal year...

Yeah 10mil is only an average of 190k a week (shipped). This year (not fiscal) they already are on average above 200k.
Seems they don't want to have to lower their forcast again, perhaps they want to be like Nintendo, raising it a million or so each quarter.
I haven't checked how well PSP is doing but 15mil seems high for it, although it is doing massively well in Japan so maybe I just haven't noticed how much it helped WW sales.

I'm not too sure what to think with your numbers, becasue from what you posted Sony lost for the second half of the fiscal year, but in their report they said they made a profit for the second half of the year.
@TWRoO -- yep when they predict decent sales then claim their gaming department is doing better than expected it makes them look good.
As opposed to making bullish predictions to which everyone simly attacks them over ... ( eg. 11 million PS3's FY07... )
Sony's overall income has massively increased, i bet that has a lot to do with HDTVs and the Blu-Ray victory (although cameras are their main business it seem).
Sony Corp probably don't mind taking a hit on the PS3 and gaming devision if the knock on effects to the rest of their business are so strong. PS3 is a cash cow in other ways other than profit on the system alone.
Clever bit of business i would say.

@Scruff7 yea their electronics divison did a bit better -- but what really helped SONY was reduced game division losses ( 2 bln -> 1.2 bln)
Still a substantial loss for the quarter, despite increased software sales and a favourable currency ratio, means that Sony is still taking quite a big loss for each PS3 sold ( >$100).
And Sony projecting only 10 million PS3s shipped in FY 2008 confirms there won't be a price drop this year.
