The OP seems to be claiming that GTA IV has seriously hurt the sales of Mario Kart Wii. I would say that Mario Kart Wii is performing just fine compared to other recent Nintendo releases.

I would say there's no way the Mario Kart Wii launch could have gone any better.

As for Nintendo going head to head with GTA IV, I think the amount of hardware that Nintendo moved last week speaks for itself.

In a way, if you think that Mario Kart was developped very fast and didnt cost anything to Nintendo...

also it DID perform very very well...

just look at Wii sales : it s Wii > Xbox360+ PS3 in USA when GTA4 went out !!!!

I think Nintendo did very well in placing it s game at this time

Then again, you shouldn't go just by post names on this site, since you can't edit them. Yet the OP seems to match the title. 



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

 Kind of, the first pics appeared last year, on July... so little dev time, probably regular budget, MK:Wii did it very well vs the last MK, but nobody (nobody sane) thought about MK:Wii beating GTA...

 

Edit:  Was MK:Wii supposed to beat one of the most hyped franchises of this gen???

If you really want an interesting comparison, take a look at Guitar Hero vs GTA.

There is a good argument to be made that Guitar Hero has become a bigger franchise than GTA.

Lifetime sales of GHIII could surpass any version of GTA.

GH generates more profit and revenue than GTA through DLC, expansion packs, guitars and accessories.

The Guitar Hero games can cycle every 12-18 months vs 2-3 years for GTA.

The development costs for GH are far lower than most other big releases.

put GTA on the wii, the guitar hero argument is no more.
