I've been playing games online since starcraft was released, so no.

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...
I started with Diablo 2 and Ultima Online both played on dialup ...netzero highspeed ftw ^_^ Now i'm spoiled with broadband connection .

My first online console game was warhawk which is excellent but has been surpassed by mario kart wii.
Before this i only ever played battle for wesnoth online which i still play .
I started with RSV, then moved onto Warhawk then COD 4, and now I generally play a bit online with each game, though I do like to only have one game that I am playing online at a time (though I do pick up Warhawk every now and again) I am still not sure whether I should get an Xbox Live subscription with my 360
I played some RTS online at a friends house a long time ago. More recently, I played Halo and Halo 2 over our local network where I live. Each team was in a separate room, and I thought that was pretty fun.
Recently, I've started playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl online. It's the first game I own that I am playing online. Up to this point, I've been all about the single player experience for me. That probably won't change though.

The first game I played online was NFL Street 2 for the PS2 and that was the only game I played online that generation. Now I play a lot of different games online on my 360.

So although online gaming has been here for almost a decade it is now that most of us are actually playing online?? Then I guess Nintendo did the right choice at not supporting a complete online support for the GC and waited for the Wii to do it.
It's great that consoles this generation are sold with everything ready to play online making it very easy for most of us to do it. Of course I don't believe that online is the future of gaming, it sure improves replayablity as you can compete with a person instead of a game's AI, and also makes co-op games a lot more interesting, but I see online as a complement of that future, we have yet to see what direction will the future of gaming take but I guess Nintendo is a little ahead than the other two companies.

The earliest games I can remember playing online are Starcraft and Battlefield: 1942. Oh yeah, and Counter Strike waaaay back when I was around Leo's age. =P
This will be the first generation I get into online with consoles, though. Gotta figure out some way to get my Wii on the net by the time Brawl arrives.
