1) Apple Pippin
2) 3D0
3) Atari single-handedly leading the industry into a crash with the 5200
4) Sega's Genesis/Megadrive peripherals
5) Nintendo's decision to stick with cartridge-based media for the N64
6) 599.99 US DOLLARS
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

You just got back from a ban. Don't troll.
Anywho, I think Atari made the biggest mistake in gaming history, by releasing a completely mediocre console (the Jaguar) and having a person who must have been born with a lead spoon in his mouth vouch for it.

I agree with the second sentiment but I'd hardly stoop to calling it a mistake...
In order of sheer failure...
1. Peter Molyneaux's first game (which sold exactly 2 copies, one of which was apparently to his own mother)
2. Gizmondo
3. GP32/GP32X
4. Apple Pippin
5. Game.com
6. Pioneer LaserActive
7. Amiga CD32
8. CD-i
9. Atari Jaguar
10. Virtual Boy
There are other worthy candidates for the middle of that list, but a lack of known sales makes it hard to gauge.
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

thats just a couple of mine
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

Whether its a good choice or not for gaming, it severly damaged the PS3 and halted the momentum of the Sony brand thus was a huge mistake. I suppose UMD isn't that high, but I was trying to round out a list. |
Yeah, I think it was worth it. The PS3 would have launched earlier and cheaper, but it would have had even fewer games than it did. Had the games that are coming out this year been released last year, Sony's problems would have been a lot less, but that wouldn't have happened either way. The console is already $400 and a better deal than the 360. With Blu-ray, it's by far a better deal. The PS3 having Blu-ray caused HD-DVD to die and now makes the PS3 a far better deal than it was last year. The PS3 would have struggled regardless last year. Games will continue to take more and more advantage of the Blu-ray format. I don't think last year would have been much different had the PS3 not included Blu-ray, but the games will benefit from the additional stoage in the future. Stranglehold's inclusion of an HD "Hardboiled" is still the best benefit, since the game was a direct sequel. MGS4 and other games are already using the full disc.
Nintendo saying fuck off to 3rd party developers. One of the reasons why I will never get a Nintendo console, theres only mario and zelda etc to play with!
| Onimusha12 said: Yeah, well that's why I was waiting for other people to add to it. I can't remember everything, but yeah, RROD would probably be a good sixth place mistake right beneath Blu-Ray. |
Please, RROD was a lot worse then PS3 having Blu-ray. I mean come on, it is the worst gaming machine ever built. How can a company as rich as Microsoft make such a faulty machine. I don't care how they treat these cases, it's ridiculous. And I would hold off on calling blu-ray bad, this gen isn't over and it might be useful at the end.

ugh. PS3's Blu-ray read speeds are uniform. The average read speeds are faster than 360's 12x DVD and uniformly faster than the DL-DVD games that most 360 games use now. Also, hard drives are faster than all optical drives. Saying these are the biggest mistakes in gaming is so far from the truth. How about Nintendo backstabbing Sony (unheard of in Japan) with the development of a CD-based gaming system? In fact, Nintendo left Sony's partnership for Phillips, the other company that created the CD format with Sony, and later screwed them as well! The result? Both Sony and Phillips released their own systems to compete with the N64: Playstation and CD-i. Those moves were a huge factor in Nintendo losing its dominance. Sony losing their dominance is more a case of Microsoft and Nintendo stepping up their options. Also, the PSP is hardly a failure. It has more share of the portable market than all non-Nintendo handhelds ever...combined.
