Whether its a good choice or not for gaming, it severly damaged the PS3 and halted the momentum of the Sony brand thus was a huge mistake. I suppose UMD isn't that high, but I was trying to round out a list. |
Yeah, I think it was worth it. The PS3 would have launched earlier and cheaper, but it would have had even fewer games than it did. Had the games that are coming out this year been released last year, Sony's problems would have been a lot less, but that wouldn't have happened either way. The console is already $400 and a better deal than the 360. With Blu-ray, it's by far a better deal. The PS3 having Blu-ray caused HD-DVD to die and now makes the PS3 a far better deal than it was last year. The PS3 would have struggled regardless last year. Games will continue to take more and more advantage of the Blu-ray format. I don't think last year would have been much different had the PS3 not included Blu-ray, but the games will benefit from the additional stoage in the future. Stranglehold's inclusion of an HD "Hardboiled" is still the best benefit, since the game was a direct sequel. MGS4 and other games are already using the full disc.
