Forums - Sales - Proven franchises vs unproven franchises "you decide"

I must ask why ps3 users feel unproven franchises can somehow destroty games from 360's lineup that are proven franchises.Ps3 users even seem to be hyping kz2 which is a sequal to a terrible first in the lineup.

mgs4 "proven good franchise"

Gears2 "proven good franchise"

which will sell more i think gears will in the u.s easy.

well killzone 2 has the best graphics for a fps on a console fo far when you look at the trailers to it, so of course its going to be hyped

Both systems have a range of proven and unproven franchises coming to their systems. With unproven franchises the hype is based on what we see, hear and know about the game. With proven franchises it's the exact same, but with previous knowledge of the games success.

I really don't see the problem with being hyped for a game of an unproven franchise.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Killzone looked sweet back at e3 when it was first shown, it looks sweet now.
The graphics in that game look amazing, that's why it's being hyped.

You can also look at Resistance. The first game was solid, but nothing we hadn't seen before.
But this was the first FPS that Insomniac Games had ever done, and because they have proven themselves a highly qualified developer, it is easy to expect Resistance 2 to be quite a game, even though we don't know much about it.

And as obieslut said, with the graphical standard KZ2 is currently setting, the hype wont take an end

Killzone is no more "unproven" than Banjo for the 360.

As for MGS and Gears, I think overall sales will be a wash but the PS3 will pick up more hardware sales.

This holiday season is going to come down to Resistance vs. Gears 2, Banjo vs. Little Big Planet, and Halo Wars vs... Er, something else. What else does the PS3 have coming this holiday season? If Microsoft can also get Alan Wake out the door, things could look pretty good for the 360.

Wait, what?!?  The Banjo games are two of the most beloved software titles on the N64, and fans have been pining for a new one for over an entire console generation!  Killzone had a flawed predecessor that is generally seen as fairly mediocre.  So, I have no idea what you're talking about there, Rocket.

But overall, I agree--there are many different reasons why games get hype, and quality of their prequels is just one.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Rare hasn't made a platformer better than "decent" in a decade. I think it's time we stopped letting them ride on the glory of N64 titles and take more of a "what have you done for me lately" approach.

@RocketPig

Motorstorm 2

don't under-estimate this title in EU...

VERY powerful brand now

oh and maybe FFXIII

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Exactly N64. I didn't even know what Banjo was until I used Google. I think this is unproven IP again .
