Forums - Sales - The Gap between PS3 and Xbox 360

Worldwide, PS3 sold  more than 90.000 consoles more than Xbox last week. With the MGS4 bundle on the horizon (which will surely spike sales in Japan), could this be the point where 360 has to let go and settle for the third place.

I know MS is still in the lead by more than 6 million consoles, but with little ammo left in their guns, and Sony banking heavy on blu-ray, a more reliable console and a better line-up, they could overtake them by the end of this fiscal year (april 2009)

So I've got two questions:

What can Sony do to screw this up?

What can MS do to turn this around?

My answers are:

As long as Sony just keeps focussing on software, and doesn't rush any of their long awaited games, they're golden.

MS needs to drop the hardware price by a big amount, slash the price of Xbox Live in half, and buy at least two developers who have a team that kan release a trippe A game EVERY year (kinda like Insomniac)

What are your answers?

6m is alot lets talk when they are close.

Sony won't overtake them that quickly, but I believe it will happen. If Sony can cut back on the delays and ensure good software, I don't see a problem for them. It doesn't hurt that MS doesn't cut prices. :)

Sony cut back on delays? You're talking about Home and Killzone 2 right?

I don't see the problem. Home will hit PS3 in the holiday season and will be fully polished. And Killzone 2... well, that'll stay out of Resistance 2's launch.

Okay, I'd like Killzone at the end of this year too, but having mayor releases all year round us a good thing for gamers, imo.

this is not a good sign for MS, and a very good one for PS3. Imagine the sales when PS3 hits the 250$ or 200$ mark. With everybody having HD tv's and blu-ray being pushed by film distributors, PS3's sales wil only go up from here

If the ps3 has any chance of passing the xbox 360 before april 2009, the ps3 needs a big boost from japan.

well 6 million is a lot, but thats only 6 million because of a year head start.

i seriously do belive that mid 2009 or even early 2009 ps3 will catch up, which would be a monumentous gaming acheivment for sony.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

I have the feeling that the achievements for Sony are noticing a lot of inflation.

Coming from 2 consoles in a row that sold over 100 million and where the undisputed king of their era's suddenly it's a monumetous achievement if it passes a console that doesn't even excist in Japan, doesn't have any momentum in Europe and breaks down 1 in 3 times?

Surely PS3 will pass 360, but at the current pace it will take over a year. Also a 360 pricedrop in the US will certainly propel the 360, since there it's the "hardcore" console of choice.

I wish people would stop saying that the 360 has run out of games when thats clearly not the case.

all depends on how it settles after this week, boost from Gta if sony holds up and ms drop. Then ms must do something since MGS4 coming soon thats another boost.

What should ms do? drop the price in USA and hope to god sony doesnt.

What should sony do if they drop harder, drop price 2 weeks before MGS4
