You may be right ;) Then again, I can't speak for anybody but myself, and I'm not in a great shape but I'm not really out of shape either.
Have you tried WiiFit, and if so, what excercises have you done?
I’m 63 and I definitely plan to get this, but not for the reasons anybody has emphasized. Yes I need to lose weight (a lot) and I definitely would like to get in better shape. But as some of the skeptics have pointed out, there are plenty of other ways to do that.
But what I am most interested in is balance. Most people my age have real balance issues and often don’t know it until they fall and hurt themselves. According to a top physical therapist, as we age, our balance deteriorates largely because we don’t use it as much as when we were younger, more sports and activities like riding a bike. There is no equipment in the gym to really help with this and relatively few exercises like walking backwards etc. There is essentially nothing available to measure balance accurately beyond a crude, “let’s see how long you can stand on one foot” or some very expensive specialized equipment which may not work as well. According to the physical therapist, the Wii Fit board is the most accurate device available to give real time feedback on balance. They plan to install some to use for balance training.
He recommends that people over 45 seriously consider this. The greatest single cause of physical disability in seniors is injuries from falling.

I am out of shape but I do find it intense - I've had it since launch in uk so been doing it every day for about 3 weeks and i'm doing jog round the island and 10 min free jog, 6 min hula hoop, 2 10 min boxing (which I really throw everything into), 2 advanced step exercises and clock about 20 mins of lower body muscle exercises in also.
It's also made me buy a bike and start biking to work and back every day (only 4 mile round trip but it all helps) so it's kick started me in a really good way.
On the topic of balance - I tore my cartilidge in my left knee a year or so ago and am seeing a phsio who had me standing on one leg, riding exercise bikes etc and since getting wii fit my balance has improved so much where my centre of gravity is about 5% better now and on the body test you do 2 balance tests and after 3 weeks i've improved so much it's unreal. I'm actually aware of my centre of gravity all of the time now.
Nice info grampy. Good to know.

Cannot wait for this game's release in the US... I'm also using its release as an excuse to go on a diet, so hopefully i can shed a few pounds, lol

I think that all the stories we have been hearing have been about people who are fat and do not exercise much! So this would be a good workout for them.

Dude, you can get your point across even without the exclamation marks. As for your point, I admit to being overweight, but I also excercise regularily, so it's not just people who don't excercise who can benefit. And as has been pointed out, the balance aspect is something that's actually nigh impossible to duplicate in normal excercise.
I plan to use it for cross training with swimming.
I am glad that I pre-ordered.
It is going to be big ... and hopefully I am going to be smaller (eventually)
