I think more people should listen to Shameless and at least rent the earlier games to see if MGS is their cup of tea. There was a letter from a reader in GI a few months back where somebody was complaining about how he hated Mass Effect and it was nothing like Halo or CoD. Something similar could happen here if people buy it just because it's a AAA blockbuster not realizing it's not their style of play at all.
Personally I'm planning on grabbing the bundle at launch and selling the game to someone else. I'm not that eager to play it yet with plenty of other games I want to dive into first and I'll grab the Substance/Subsistence/"Whatever they decide to call it this time" version next year when it comes out.

How could you quit so soon into the 3rd one. Did you get to the James Bondesqe theme song? Hearing that come on, I almost busted a gut laughing. It was just so off the wall and crazy.
...
I played MGS1 despite never having played MG and MG2. I imagine MGS4 will come with a 'previously in the series' thing to read like MGS1 and 2 did, and the story will have enough flashbacks and explanations to make the storyline clear enough for new comers anyway.
However, the MGO Beta recieved quite a bit of flak from people who were expecting it to play like COD4, so I'll be surprised if the same thing doesn't happen with MGS4 too.

i'm buying it but only b/c i am getting the bundle.
I like that the DS3 is included, but i must say i will most likely not like MGS4 as i don't care for sneaky types of games.
I have owned all three metal gears, and to this day its MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS 2 without a doubt. Graphically they have got better as the series goes on, but nothing can match the wow factor of the first.
So i will definitely be buying MGS4 minutes (maybe seconds) after its release

I've not played any of the previous MGS games, but will pick up MGS4 (already have it pre-ordered).
In past generations, I have been a RPG only gamer. I'm forcing myself to try out new types of games this generation.
I fell in love with Rock Band and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue...I'm hoping I like MGS4 just as much.

I think that the game will be accessible gameplay wise but seriously if you haven't played the other games you won't understand the story... And it's a big mess, I once spent more than 2 hours discussing with a firend of mine why 3 is needed to understand 2 and seriously i reccomend probably to see at the gametrailers metal gear retrospective they are making... number 1 helped explain the basic of the NES games... and i imagine you can get basic knoweldge to be prepared for 4...
Internet hype internet hype...
Will be an excellent game with good sales but under 50% of people that bought it the first week will beat it.""
